Steven Spielberg began shooting his film about the 1972 Munich Olympics where Palestinian militants took Israeli athletes hostage. Around 16 Israelis, Palestinians, and one German police officer ended up dead. The film will focus more on the Mossad’s vengeance spree afterwards, in which it killed Palestinian activists all over Europe and the Arab world — many of whom had nothing to do with Munich.
The script was fixed up by Tony Kushner, the playwright and co-editor of an anthology featuring Jewish-Americans critical of Israel. The script deals with the moral dilemmas faced by the Mossad killers and is said to include kernels of Palestinian qualms against Israel.
However, Spielberg is very sensitive about pissing off the wrong people. He consulted with Israel-loving former diplomat Dennis Ross and Israel-loving former President Bill Clinton. Of course, no Palestinians were asked for their views on the script.
I can only predict that this film will suck, and make Palestinians look bad.
