The uproar over the cartoons, seen by many as anti-muslim, originally published in a Danish Newspaper refuses to die.
For me one of the stupidest responses around this issue is from other European newspapers who have re-printed the, obviously at this point, offensive cartoons in the name of free speech. Even if the argument that this is about free speech is accurate in your opinion, a well reasoned and impassioned editorial piece would have done less damage and more good.
Sadly, responses from the Muslim world have been as short-sighted as the European actions. For me the boycott just seems silly, it may have a marginal economic effect on some Danish companies, which of course have no links to the original newspaper as far as I know, and will undoubtedly hurt the local distributors and partners of the Danish companies in the Middle East. I guarantee if the local partners were close to, say the royal family of one of the gulf states, the boycott would not have gone forward.
The response of Hamshahiri newspaper, a contest for the best holocaust cartoons, is beyond short-sighted and just morally reprehensible.
