A Boo-Who?

There is a surprising amount of mystery surrounding the booing of Miss America at the Miss Universe pageant held in Mexico City earlier this week. The networks, and Donald Trump, the pageant's owner, tried to figure out why -- and right-wing media watchdog groups called this "justification." How dare they actually weigh what people in the rest of the world have to say!

Trump put it obliquely, "I don't think they were booing Rachel, Perhaps they were booing some policies of the United States." Maybe it's the whole global domination thing. It could just be that Miss America still predictably made it to the final five even though she tripped on stage -- a big pageantry no-no that signifies American control of global cultural events (a reflection of its control of global institutions, like the World Bank and the United Nations).

Many linked it to the vitriolic anti-immigrant rhetoric coming out in the debates over US immigration. The United States is grossly unpopular for its general disregard for the world's peoples, whether Arabs sitting on oil or fighting back on their land, Africans dying due to natural resources and development issues, or Mexicans and Latinos trying to make a better life for them either at home or here in the United States. Bullies are resented. The difference with America is that it thinks it should still be loved and respected.

Does this justify the booing? It would actually sadly justify much more than booing. How can we even compare the insult of jeers to the devastation of economies and loss of lives and livelihoods that result from US actions and policies? To even note this gap highlights the willful ignorance of the angered American nationalists.

I have to admit I was not there, so I am mostly speculating. They could have been booing her outfit. However, it is well known by the few Americans who actually travel outside the country for non-militaristic reasons that people despise what our government does in the world, it is safe to bet that is what people in the crowd resent. It probably wasn't Miss America's dress.

Are you trying to make Americans hate Palestinians, Will? Or are you trying to make Americans hate Mexicans?

It does seem like a good idea to take the only two issues that are unpopular with 80% of Americans combine them! Kind of an exponential gain there, isn't it?

So, keep up the promotion of illegal immigration, and Palestinian terrorism. Seriously :)

You couldn't do more harm to these "causes" if you tried.

Yeah, Americans are so terrible to illegal immigrants. Not like Mexico, which welcomes Guatemalan and other Central Americans with open arms.

If we treated illegal Mexican immigrants like they treat illegal Central Americans, surely they wouldn't have booed.

"No one loves these Yankees these days. How could that be???"

Who the fuck cares really? So people don't like the USA. Big fuckin woop-tee-doo! Gee, the world is like some big popularity contest!!! Wooohoo! Can we please roll with the popular (or populist - Chavez) crowd?

The only difference between American arrogance and, say, Palestinian or Mexican arrogance is that Americans have achieved something to be proud of.

So because of United States policies, not only is it understandable that Miss America was booed, but more boos were in order? Will, I'm surprised that this makes sense to you.

Ya know, arabs knocked down the twin towers, so I think I'm going to harass them in the streets. Hey, it's not really directed at them, but more so their ethnicity. I suppose painting arabs with a single brush constitutes stereotyping and racism. Somehow, however, you are perfectly fine with people doing the same to Americans. And perhaps you know more about pageantry than I, but I don't see how Miss American still being in the running is indicative of US Global Domination. Sounds like your reaching.

Essentially the theme of your post is: The United States is so bad that anything people do to Americans is justified because THAT'S how angry america has made people. It's pretty aggravating to discover that your anti-americanism runs this deep.

What's next? US soccer team is pelted with batteries at a match in Egypt and you write an article saying "well what do you expect!?"
Surely you must see the hypocricy???

No, Will is right.

Yesterday, I walked into a gas station selling gas for, (can you believe this?), a whopping, imperialistic $3.49 a gallon.

So naturally, when I walked in and saw the Saudi looking guy behind the counter (how could I tell? I don't know, how can you tell what an American looks like, they're all different ethnicities. Let's just say this guy looked like Osama's little brother, or like any typical camel-boy molesting, clitoris slicing, head chopping, perverted Saudi), I thought about how "people despise what his government does in the world, it is safe to bet that is what people like me resent", and I said:

"Hey Oil Tick! I have nothing against you per say as a human, but 'your government is grossly unpopular for its general disregard for the world's peoples' (peoples!?!? - only a word a populist like Will or Mao can throw in!) so I'm going to go out there and pump this $3.49 oil that your gay father or cross-dressing grandfather couldn't figure out how to get out of the ground, so that my money goes to educate more mind numbingly stupid jihadees in training at your madrasses where little boys get raped and where little girls stand out in the rain in potato sacks. But seriously, nothing personal Muhammed!! I just resent your government, so until it changes its policies, you are going to have to deal with people talking to you like this."

There's nothing political about the booing done by the Mexican audience. The 1993 Miss Universe Pageant was also held in Mexico City and they also booed Miss USA 1993, Kenya Summer Moore.

It's simple...Mexicans are poor in accepting defeat. That's why they act that way. They cannot accept the fact that their candidate is not the best. I was at the Miss Universe Pageant last year in Los Angeles and unfortunately, I sat in the middle of about 200 Mexican fans and after Miss Mexico did not make the top 5, they also started booing 2006 Miss USA, Tara Conner. It's just poor sportsmanship...it's that simple!

So Mexicans are historic sore loosers. I can live with that. They lost half of their country to us and still think they can get it back by illegal immigration and a population bomb. Simultaneously, they complain about us putting up walls but don't let Central Americans (even educated ones LOL) into their country.

Wow, I never noticed how many similarities they have with the Palestinians. The only difference is, they don't brainwash their kids to be murderers or celebrate psychotic killers like Palestinians do.
