1953: US Overthrows Iran's Government Of Democratically Elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh

The 1953 Iranian coup d'état removed the nationalist cabinet of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh from power, supported by a covert operation, codenamed Operation Ajax (officially TP-AJAX) by the United Kingdom and the United States. The coup was performed in order to support the Pahlavi dynasty and consolidate the power of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, attempting to preserve the Western control of Iran's oil infrastructure and to prevent the rising influence of communists in the Iranian government. The coup was the culmination of a long conflict between Mossadeq, the Shah, and the parliament of Iran. Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, during the administration of President Bill Clinton, made an apology to the Iranian people in 2000 for the United States' role in the overthrow.

The idea of overthrowing Mossadegh was originally conceived by the British. They asked President Truman for assistance, but when he refused, the British proposed the idea once again to Eisenhower who became president in 1953. The new administration agreed to participate.

Mossadegh reasoned that Iran ought to begin profiting from its vast oil reserves, although Iran lacked the capacity and infrasructure to produce its own oil. He took the steps to nationalize the oil industry which had previously been controlled by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (later changed to the British Petroleum Company). Britain alleged that Iran was violating the company's legal rights and actually spearheaded a worldwide boycott of Iran's oil that submerged the regime into financial crisis. Following the British/U.S. operations, western oil companies were invited back into Iran.

The post started to go awry when you accidentally wrote "Democratically Elected" at the top :O

The part where you used "US" together with "Overthrow" had some problems, as well.

Perhaps you should read up on the topic? Instead of just taking the word of Iranian propagandists? Just a thought.

US High School History Curriculum: school year 2034

Iraq war – 2003-2007
Having been savagely attacked by Saddam Hussein on 9/11, the embattled, peace-loving George Bush was forced against his will by a vengeful New York population reeling from the collapse of the World Trade Centre to strike at the perpetrators.

Greeted by smiling, flower-waving Iraqi children, every precision-guided bomb was cheered as it destroyed the Hussein regime in a painless war of technological proficiency. The Iraqi people had more to smile about when democratic institutions, modern infrastructure and hi-spec utilities swiftly materialsied from the minimal rubble.

Withdrawing almost as soon as the mission was complete, the US army left Iraq a united, peaceful country, enriched by the oil industry that leading US charity Haliburton help instantly re-nationalise.

Today, Iraq is experiencing the same economic miracle as Japan in the 1950s and 1960s.

God Bless America.

Yeah, that's how an Arab would tell it, isn't it? Only an Arab wouldn't even wait a generation before re-inventing history.

Judging by your first post, I don't think you should be lecturing anyone...

Apart from maybe the best way a Marine can depose of an Iraqi teen having raped and killed her, of course......

Lowfields, why do you continue to pretend to be a different person than Nox? You two always comment in tandem and say the same things, the same way. Do you think you're fooling anyone?

Judging by your first post, I don't think you should be lecturing anyone...

Of course I should be lecturing about the way history is recorded and taught in Muslim countries. You do realzie that Muslims have a completely different version of world history than what everyone else uses, right? And look at the latest 3 or 4 posts on this blog? They are all telling outright lies about current events. When you lie about what's happening today, it's only natural that those lies become the history you teach your children. And then you end up with a bunch of ignorant loudmouths who don't even know the history of their own people. Example: I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw a Muslim claim that Islam was spread peacefully in the 7th and 8th century.

Oh, here we go again. Craig, it's univerally known that the US undermined Mossadeqh in Iran, in order to safeguard the US-friendly regime of the Shah, a monarch, an autocrat, and, even you wouldn't disagree, a less democratically-elected ruler than Mossdegh. For god sakes, even the film "Syriana" acknowledges it. I can't really beleive that you beleive that the US's hands are completely clean, but that wouldn't suprise me kid...

Don't make me have to style on you again...

Craig, it's univerally known that the US undermined Mossadeqh in Iran

And as we all know, "undermine" means exactly the same thing as "overthrow"! Right? That's what you learned in school, isn't it?

in order to safeguard the US-friendly regime of the Shah, a monarch, an autocrat, and, even you wouldn't disagree, a less democratically-elected ruler than Mossdegh.

They were both autocrats. Mossadeq dissolved both houses of the Iranian Majlis (the very bodies he was "Prime Minister" of) thereby making himself literally into a dictator.

You are correct. The US backed the pro-US autocrat over the pro-Soviet autocrat.

So what? You think we should have backed a man who was on the path to becoming a Soviet puppet, during the middle of the Cold War?

For god sakes, even the film "Syriana" acknowledges it.

Oh, well, whatever the film "Syriana" says must be true!

I haven't seen that movie. I'm just pointing out the absurdity of using a Hollywood movie as a source for historical facts. As far as I know, "Syriana" was not made as a documentary. And even if it had been, there are quite a number of documentaries that are frauds. Michael Moore has made a lot of money making fake documentaries, for instance.

I can't really beleive that you beleive that the US's hands are completely clean, but that wouldn't suprise me kid...

So, I can't point out when somebody is telling obvious lies, without being accused of having the exact opposite (and equally dishonest) opinions?

I never said any of the things you attributed to me. I didn't state an opinion at all. I just pointed out a couple claims in the title of the post that were factually incorrect. To be honest, I never read the post. When there are two lies in the title, reading the body is somewhat pointless.

Don't make me have to style on you again...

Show me your break dancing, too! You so fly!
