One Good Thing Today:

Lawyers of the Center for Constitutional Rights are arguing today before the US District Court of Appeals for DC. The suit is against the former head of IDF intelligence Ret Lt Gen Moshe Ya'alon for shelling the United Nations compound at Qana in 1996, killing 106 civilians taking shelter there.

I really don't have anything to add to this comment by Judith Chomsky, CCR attorney:

In 1996, the residents of Qana fled to the UN compound believing that they could be safe there, and the Israeli forces intentionally struck this refuge. One of the perpetrators of that attack came to enjoy the benefits of living in the United States. The US should not be a safe haven for those responsible for a deadly attack on unarmed civilians.
For more information click here. Kudos to the CCR.

Israel bombed Qana again in 2006, killing 30. Guess we can expect the wheels of justice to start turning for those families in 2016?

And now for some REAL good news:

Afghan, int'l troops retake crucial town from Taliban

The Taliban as a centralized political and military force, able to exert control over substantial centers of population, are finished. The only question I have is why we didn't bomb the crap out of them on their retreat, or mine the routes of escape, as the Russians did during the bloody Chechen retreat from Grozny.

I suspect force availability, ongoing negotiations and a desire to avoid a slaughter that would rile up their more docile ethnic supporters had a role to play.

Then again, if they're traveling on trucks and motorbikes over open terrain, incompetence on the part of NATO and Afghan command may very well be responsible.

There is nothing quite like a pair of Apaches with IR sights against a convoy of thin skinned enemy vehicles on a cold winter night in Afghanistan.

"The secret weapon of the stars - Israeli bodyguards"

Wow!

Someone else is on the Israel21c weekly newsletter! I was going to post this very same article on KabobFest but couldn't find a good spot for it.

It's pretty crazy that some random person who happens to read KabobFest AND subscribe to Israel21c posted the exact same article I was thinking of commenting on.

As Flanders would say, "That's quite a Coinkidink!"

Way to hijack a thread to which you have no substantive response. Changing the subject-slippery and scurrilous Dersho-technique #1.
Typical.

I only do it for lame posts. Poor blogging is like an illness. It needs to be treated. My comments should not be read in lieu of therapy. I'm not a doctor; I'm a first responder.

There you go again. If you wish to say why you think the post is "lame", or have other substantive information to share, go for it.
Otherwise, you're a wannabe Dersh, employing transparent lawyer tricks to deflect inconvenient news.
Which is, as we all know, a tactic which sucks serious ass.

Ismael, I don't know whose ass you are sucking, or what "Dersh" refers to. I think I've berated Emily enough in the past few days, and was simply trying to say there IS some good news in the world... good news that actually matters, without overt criticism.

In any case, it seems that the only person actually distracted from the subject of the post is YOU. I guess my fine tuned "lawyer tricks" hit the mark in your case.

Ismail said...

Of course, I understand now. You simply chose Emily's useful post about the increasing awareness of the IDF's barbarity to make the banal point that the world contains a quantity of goodness.

Makes perfect sense, as complete and utter douchery goes.

Feel free to ask if you're unaware of what "douchery" refers to.

Ismail, your linguistic acumen knows no bounds - even those of civility.

At least you concede that retaking of Musa Qala from Taliban forces is "a quantity of goodness". That's progress.

Keep working on it... sanity is just a thought away.

Once again, if you want to endorse CRC's actions against the criminal Ya'alon, feel free. If you think their efforts are mistaken or if you have some exculpatory evidence you'd like to share, go right ahead.

But if you insist on merely deflecting attention from information that demonstrates the corruption of the rogues in Tel Aviv (see "coals to Newcastle"), than you shall engage in that douchery (sic) all by yourself.

That is, if you choose to answer in the non-responsive fashion you seem to prefer, you shall have the last bleat.

Is it that difficult for you to recognize the defeat of Taliban as a victory for what's good in the world? Does it hurt, Ismail? Do you cry about it?
