13, No Wait, 12 People Who Do Not Want To Blow You Up

In a hilariously misled attempt to publish a book on tolerance, two New York-based writers compiled write-ups of 13 people, mostly Muslims and with scary foreign-sounding names, and at the end of each say, "He does not want to blow you up!"

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar does not want a chapter on himself saying "he does not want to blow you up!" Be careful, Kareem! You'll get the FBI on your back if you appear too resistant to the idea.

So, that leaves 12 people who do not want to blow me up. What about the other 1,609,999,988 Muslims in the world?

As a counterpart to this book, if it is indeed published in the end, may I recommend a list of white people with names that sound like your neighbors' with entries such as, "Ted Kaczinsky, he'd LOVE to blow you up!"

Tarboush Tip: Tiffany for the article and basically the whole idea.

the funniest part is that Emily used the phrase "tarboush tip"

Emily, why do you care about Muslims? Stop it now. You're not allowed. Also, you should stop talking about men. As a fellow woman, I think you are betraying all female-hood by caring about men's issues.

Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss academic and theologian

I think this one does want to blow people up, though.

Thanks for saving me the time of pointing that out, Safiyyah.

Emily, how long until we get some posts from you about persecution of Iraqi Christians by Muslims? Or the same, with European Christians in Saudi Arabia?

And please don't claim you can't find any such atrocities to write about.

You could try Turkey as well, since you care so much about Turks.

Turkey

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Christians#Turkey

Things worsened after the Empire collapsed at the end of World War I. Nationalist movements like the Young Turks began persecuting and murdering Greek, Armenian, Assyrian and other Christians in what are known as the Armenian, the Pontic Greek and the Assyrian Genocides. This mass murder of Christians is fairly unknown today outside Greece and Armenia, despite taking place not very long ago (1915-1922). It is claimed that 1,500,000 Armenians, 750,000 Assyrians and another 350,000 Greeks were murdered and most had to abandon regions inhabited by them for thousands of years.

The Istanbul pogrom was a state-sponsored and state-orchestrated pogrom that compelled Greek Christians to leave Constantinople (Turkish Istanbul), the first Christian city in violation to the Treaty of Lausanne (see Istanbul Pogrom). The issue of Christian genocides by the Turks may become a problem, since Turkey wishes to join the European Union.[14] The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople is still in a difficult position. Turkey requires by law that the Ecumenical Patriarch must be an ethnic Greek, holding Turkish citizenship by birth, although most of the Greek minority has been expelled. The state's expropriation of church property and the closing of the Orthodox Theological School of Halki are also difficulties faced by the Church of Constantinople. Despite appeals from the United States, the European Union and various governmental and non-governmental organizations, the School remains closed since 1971. Persecution of Christians is continuing in modern Turkey. On February 5, 2006, the Catholic priest Andrea Santoro was murdered in Trabzon by a student influenced by the massive anti-Christian propaganda in the Turkish popular press,[15] following the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy. On April 18, 2007, 3 Christians were brutally murdered in Malatya,[16][17] the hometown of Mehmet Ali Ağca, the assassin who shot and wounded Pope John Paul II on May 13, 1981.

Well, Turkey is 98% Muslim *now*, isn't it? So lets worry about the poor dear Muslims and what they should wear on their heads, that's much more important than your Christian faith isn't it, Emily?

PS-Did you notice how those fools claimed that Constantinople was the first Christian city!?

A website that monitors persecution of Christians for you, Emily.

Check out their article about the dangers to Christians that this lifting of the headscarf ban in Turkey poses. They seem to have taken the exact opposite view from yours! What a surprise :O

What a great way to encourage tolerance. Perhaps
they should consider a series:
Black Americans who dont want to hurt you.
Jewish Americans who dont want to trick you.
Asian Americans who dont want to beat you at math.

You're so cute when you get frustrated, Safiyyah! I would have loved to see your face while you were typing that :P

nev, your comment reminded me of a comedian (name?) who joked about the movie "the indian in the cupboard." he asked, "how racist is that? what's next? the jew in my sock drawer? the mexican in my hamper?"

You're so cute when you make assumptions about me as a human being that are fundamentally flawed capability of understanding other human beings, and especially women. I was just trying to get you to react, because it's funny to make you waste your time on this. No one is listening to you. Don't you have friends that would listen to your crazy rants? (Rhetorical question)

Emily said...

nev have you seen arrested development?

i would add to your list from the show:
a mexican cartel that WON'T kidnap and kill you!

programmer craig said...

Safiyyah, I don't care enough about you to make "assumptions". From what I can see here on this blog you are a narrow-minded and abusive bigot, so that's how I treat you.

No one is listening to you.

Besides you and everyone else, I guess :P

Don't you have friends that would listen to your crazy rants?

You think this is how I treat my friends? I wouldn't be caught dead associating with the people on this blog. A bunch of fucking lunatics, the lot of you.

PC, As much as I hate to agree with you. The massacares of the Arminians did happen. It's fair to say that the whole world idnored the occurance of these atrocities.

However, The current elected goverment in turkey has nothing to do with those who committed the crimes you mentioned.

Kabobfest is best known for tackling contemporary issues. So drop that whole guilt act. And stick to the context of the post you comment on.

enon said...

Weren't republicans against recognizing the armenian genocide? And to think, why would an overwhelmingly christian party not want to recognize the murder of their fellow christians? I guess by PC's logic Armenian christians aren't real christians either.

I don't agree. With their continued denial that their ancestors committed those crimes, they certainly ARE involved.

It wasn't all that long ago. Is 1948 so much more recent than 1922? 60 years versus 85 years... it makes a difference? What if Germany was never punished for it's genocide, and never admitted to it... would you say Germans weer guiltless?

The ADL lobbied against the genocide recognition too, despite finally admitting that it was a genocide last year under pressure from various Jewish groups.

This has nothing to do with some girls in headscarves though, the secularists are just as adamant about denying their history as anyone else in that country(in some ways worse.)
