A few new polls have come come out recently that could, but probably won't, reshape the current discourse on the Middle East:
1) Gallup has released the results of an incredibly large scale poll which argues that only seven percent of Muslims supported the 9/11 attacks. Furthermore, those that did support the attacks tended to give political rather than religious justifications. Now that might still be just over one hundred thousand people, but not quite the barbarian hordes at the gatse scenario some tend to promote. The full report will come out in a forthcoming study. Here are some more fun facts from the study:
* Muslims and Americans are equally likely to reject attacks on civilians as morally unjustifiable.
* Large majorities of Muslims would guarantee free speech if it were up to them to write a new constitution AND they say religious leaders should have no direct role in drafting that constitution.
* Muslims around the world say that what they LEAST admire about the West is its perceived moral decay and breakdown of traditional values -- the same answers that Americans themselves give when asked this question.
2) Another poll sheds light on the disconnect between how we talk about Palestine-Israel in the USA and in Israel. Sixty-four percent of Israelis say the government must hold direct talks with the Hamas government in Gaza toward a cease-fire and the release of captive soldier Gilad Shalit. This even includes forty eight percent of Likud party members. If the majority of Israel is okay with it, why is it anathema for the USA?
Of course this is all because everyone realizes the coup that is about to happen in the next presidential election....the inevitable election of a secret Muslim. Yep, it doesn't matter if it is Clinton, Obama or McCain, they are all seeeeecret Muslims.

What say you about the fact 100% of the Arabs/Muslims/friends of same on this blog support attacks on civilians, then, Nimr?
Are Kabobfesters that out of touch with their brethren, or is that poll a bunch of politically correct horse manure?
BY the way, why is everyone continuing to quote this "poll" when there's no fucking poll data?
WHERE IS THE DATA!?
I've been around for a long time, and not once in my life have I ever seen anyone promoting poll results while hiding the actual poll data. What's wrong with this picture?
And should I really feel that good that only 8% of Muslims think it's OK to murder me and my family just because we are Americans? Is that really a "good news" story, Nimr?
So when the US decides to find those 8% of Muslims who think it's OK to murder Americans, and kill them first in self-defense, that will be OK with you right? That will be even MORE good news, right Nimr?
"WHERE IS THE DATA!?"
Probably the same place as the data that suggests not many US Marines want to rape underage girls wherever they serve in the world....
Tell me, is petrol or quicklime better at disposing of a teenage virgin's body...?
Do Iraqi virgins struggle more than Japanese...?
That's the kind of data I'm after, Craigy boy...
Hey, give Craig a break, he was off shore of Lebanon playing "hide the sausage" with his fellow sailors when the Marines were killed in Beirut.
The sad fact is the blast scared the man he was engaged with and he bit down. Craig is now only half the man he was before that.
better than the polls u all run here.
Only 7% "fully support" the 9/11 attacks. They never say how many consider them somewhat justified or are neutral.
What I found odd was the claim that those who support them do so on purely political grounds, and not on religious ones. The distinction between religion and politics is not all that well-defined in most predominantly Muslim countries. Sharia, anyone?
I also looked for the poll data and have been disappointed to find only the same few snippets. Just the cherry-picked parts they want us to know about.
If I am not mistaken this press release was sort of a teaser for a larger, detailed study that will be released in book form. I am sure it will be held up to all kinds of scrutiny when released.
They are just trying to build the hype for a forthcoming book. It is good marketing, not a conspiracy. :)
