If you read anything today, read this article. And watch the video in its entirety.
Several veterans said it was common to carry a stash of extra automatic weapons and shovels to plant near the bodies of unarmed civilians they had killed to make it look as if they were combatants. Others described the surreal sensation of committing cold-blooded murder without facing any consequences. Jon Michael Turner, who served as a machine gunner with Kilo Company, Third Battalion, Eighth Marines, said he shot an unarmed Iraqi in front of the man's father and friend. "The first round didn't kill him, after I had hit him up here in his neck area. And afterwards he started screaming and looked right into my eyes. So I looked at my friend...and I said, 'Well, I can't let that happen.' So I took another shot and took him out. He was then carried away by the rest of his family." Later, Turner pointed to a tattoo on his right wrist of the Arabic words for "fuck you." "That was my choking hand," he explained. "And any time I felt the need to take out aggression, I would go ahead and use it."

Ahem: bullshit.
Inconsistencies in Clifton Hicks' stories.
You can't discredit the hundreds of soldiers who gave and submitted testimony. What are you so worried about anyway? Nobody's covering it and nobody really wants to see what this war us done to all of the people involved, especially not the troops they "support" so much.
I highly doubt that you've taken the time to listen to the several hours of testimony about what the situation is really like (stories we've heard for years from the Iraqi side that are now confirmed by the US service members involved), about how the veterans and active personnel are treated by the military, about what it's like for the families of the 120 returning veterans who commit suicide every week.... if you did, you would be too ashamed to show your name around here. Unless you've lost every ounce of human decency that you may ever have possessed.
Go fuck yourself.
What are you so worried about anyway?
Thanks again for your concern about me, but I don't want it. Stay on topic.
about what it's like for the families of the 120 returning veterans who commit suicide every week
The degree to which you are misinformed is hilarious:
The report said the 99 confirmed suicides among active duty soldiers [in 2006] compares with 87 in 2005 and is the highest number since 102 were reported in 1991, the year of the Persian Gulf War, when there were more soldiers on active duty.

Your credulity strains credibility. Kabobfest — like you — unquestioningly believes everything they want to believe, and nothing that they don't.
120 a week? Please, please, share your source for this. You who pontificate about becoming well-informed about what's really going on.
Feh.
I found your source. It is not giving figures for "returning veterans", but for all veterans. The suicide rate is for all veterans.
The number of suicides among veterans who returned from Iraq and Afghanistan is considerably lower.
Yes, there are suicides. Yes, that's tragic. No, it doesn't mean the "winter soldiers'" tales are true. And no, it's not some massive epidemic among returning veterans.
More reasons to question CBS.
You can't discredit the hundreds of soldiers who gave and submitted testimony.
That's because VAIW officials told Cybercast News Service they were unwilling to allow independent verification of the identities of the veterans who spoke at their conference last week.
It's hard to discredit those who are being protected from any scrutiny.
This is a disgusting post, even by KABOBfest standards.
Thanks for taking the time to answer this garbage, Roy.
wow, roy. your credibility is astounding, considering you can't even get the name of the group straight lol it's IVAW not VAIW. If you can't get a simple acronym right what can you get right? Take your propaganda bullshit elsewhere.
wow, roy. your credibility is astounding, considering you can't even get the name of the group straight lol it's IVAW not VAIW.
Who cares what a bunch of liars who won't even allow their credentials to be checked call themselves?
If you can't get a simple acronym right what can you get right? Take your propaganda bullshit elsewhere.
So when Roy spends so much time carefully debunking a group that is obviously engaged in a propaganda effort, the appropriate thing to do is call HIM a propagandist, rather than to check the veracity of the claims being made, yourself. Good on you, anonymous :P
I could tell just reading the post and the claims it contained that it was a bunch of garbage. Anyone who actually believes people in the US military carry around spare automatic rifles to drop next to bodies and nobody questions them about it has never been in the US military. And has probably never even KNOWN anyone in the US military. And shovels? Give me a break. E-tools, yeah, but shovels? Absurd.
Why do I get the feeling that when this group has loudly and publicly been exposed for what they are, KABOBfesters will ignore the fact they have been discredited, and will instead continue to believe all the made-for-television horror stories? Time for the US government to start prosecuting people for making fraudulent claims about US military service. That's a felony and it's about time it should be treated as one. People get killed over this kind of lie.
Take your propaganda bullshit elsewhere.
I think you should have addressed this to Fadi.
The transposition of letters in the acronym was not mine. It was CNSNews.com's. Saying that means their whole report is fabricated is a bit of a stretch, but it's pretty clear you aren't interested in questioning anything that you want to believe.
Roy,
There are few inconsistencies in Hicks' stories, mostly just twisted words and quotes taken out of context.
