The "ethnic" guys who spent all night trying to find White Castle made a new movie in which they do something more miraculous than find the fast food chain in New Jersey. They escape from Guantanamo Bay.
Though I laughed at the parody of airport security and American xenophobia, I am caught in the classic conundrum over slapstick humor forays into serious, timely issues -- and America's extra-territorial holding pen/torture booth for "suspected illegal combatants" is no laughing matter. Does the commentary get lost in the sauce? Probably. Though I may see it because I still do not believe pre-judging art is a good idea. but I am well aware this will be just another vapid cultural product from the nation that so easily forgets it is in war.

So there's a new movie out and you think that you might go see it?
OOOOOoooooooh THAT'S INTERESTING!
The first H&K was pretty funny and actually had some decent commentary about cops, New Jersey, and racism in the US -- for once in Hollywood, not from a stupid white-Black dichotomy.
It was also the ONLY Hollywood movie in my lifetime -- other than the Joy Luck Club -- where the leads are identifyibly Asian American. The ONLY one. How fucking pathetic is that?
Hollywood conceives, spends millions on, screens and forgets scores and scores of shitty, uninspired movies full of white people every year. They make a handful of predictable uplift-from-the-ghetto and go-kill-foreigners movies "for" Black people (see Akeelah and the Bee with its racist Asian stereotypes and The Kingdom with its racist Arab stereotypes, each of which put a Black face on a white-written movie).
These brothers are doing something a little different, if in tiny ways. And the scene from the preview where Kumar morphs into Bin Laden and does the 'plane-crashey' thing with his hand is fucking hilarious.
In general though - burn, Hollywood burn!
Time to go watch The Saragossa Manuscript...
It's very mature of Will to hate on something before he even sees it, right? KABOBfestWATCH
