The [Worst Person in the World] winners tonight: Dunkin' Donuts of Canton, Massachussetts. The unbearable Rachael Ray in an ad for the donut and coffee chain to which the lunatic fringe responded in an apoplexy of xenophobic paranoia because that -- that thing around her neck, that is not just a stupid scarf, they think that is what Yasser Arafat used to wear on his head. See it's, it's "jihadist chic" and having already driven business to Dunkin' Donuts by applauding its supposed stance in favor of tough immigration laws, the Right threatened to boycott. So what did Dunkin' Donuts do? They folded. They were as weak as their decaf:
"In a recent online ad, Rachel Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended, however, given the possibilty of misperception we are no longer using the commercial." (DUNKIN' DONUTS STATEMENT)
They pulled the ad? Because of the "possibility of misperception" by the right-wing equivalence of jihadists. The people in this country who most closely share the mentalities of the terrorists. Who act the most like Middle Eastern nut jobs who:
You know, the Michelle Malkins of the world. And you gave in to them? Because they merely mentioned the possibility of a boycott? How about this... how about the rest of us boycott Dunkin' Donuts for giving into fascists like Michele Malkin? And for giving way to perhaps the most absurd idea the lunatic fringers have ever belched forth.
They think there are terrorist scarves! TERRORIST SCARVES! Dunkin' Donuts. Time to stop buying the donuts.

Too bad I've never been to Dunkin Donuts, so my boycott is not really that vital. I have no idea whether I'm right, but I might guess that the clientèle swings a little bit rightish.
In an unrelated aside, I saw Olbermann discussing the Hamas endorsement of Obama. He actually put up the full quote, which if you don't know, compared Obama with JFK and was hopeful about his leadership skills. Olbermann scoffed at it and said something similar to, "sounds like a real terrorist whacko." To which Jonathan Alter responded something like, "Hamas are baby killers." Anyway, I truly appreciate Olbermann and just wish he wasn't stifled by the guardians of the good public opinion for Israel, like Alter. But, maybe, we're getting there. We'll see.

Olbermann is stifled? He has his own show and lambasts Bush whenever he can. I'm not sure what you're basing your opinions on, but clearly not on anything factual.

Yes, Olbermann is stifled. The entire press is stifled. I'm specifically talking about Israel. Bush is an easy target these days. I'm happy he's (Olbermann) there, I'm just saying there is an almost infantile ignorance when it comes to Israel/Palestine, and Olbermann is no exception. I understand, though. It's easier NOT to know.
If MSNBC wanted some credibility on "lambasting Bush," they could have had it 5 years ago with Phil Donahue. But what happened to him? Oh yeah, he was fired for airing anti-war voices. It's weally weally scary to criticize a president with a number like 28%, isn't it?
What I was referring to was something I witnessed of an honest assessment by Olbermann of one little issue, which was the quote by Ahmed Yousef used by McCain to say that Obama is not good enough to be president because people might start to like us again, that was quickly stifled by Jonathan "let's-not-think-about-this-for-too-long" Alter. I'm tired of mainstream left being dominated by the attitude that you cannot question Israel. I think it's slowly changing, and I'm grateful for that. With the spread of information, it can't help but come to light. I would just like to see that speed up X1,000,000.
When people don't talk about Israel in a manner that fits your worldview, you claim they are stifled. If they do talk about Israel, but you don't agree with their assessment, then they are influenced by pro-israel powers. If you want to look for bias, I suggest looking in the mirror Safiyyah.

Saffiyah, what's the end-game you have in mind, with regard to Israel/Palestine? Who do you want living where, what sort of government do you want them to have, and more broadly, how do you want the region to progress?
