Both 60 Minutes and the Washington Post have recently profiled some of the many failings of the US funded al Hurra Arabic language news channel. Some of the reporting is a bit silly, but together they paint a bleak picture of mismanagement, miscalculations and missteps. Included is this absolute gem about the Cairo bureau (from the times article):
“The bureau’s satellite link was unplugged with little explanation a few weeks ago by a local company, making it impossible to broadcast live. Since then, staffers have had to use a studio controlled by the Egyptian secret police [emphasis mine], who have warned guests not to say anything controversial on the air.”
And we wonder why the station has no credibility?
