Introducing Kalash

Help me in welcoming Kalash to our blog. You can see by his first post that he will be a valuable addition to our family of malcontents.

Many will ask who is he? But, what is more important is what he is not. He is not prone to boaterisms or a gratuitous disregard for grammar and spelling (Fayyad). He is not a flaming radical who wants to end the capitalism, like QuiQui for example, nor is he likely to issue angry, personal tirades, (Fadi), nor tell stories about obscure Mauritanian flute players (Nimr) or obsess over a floating trash island (Tarik).

He was not educated at an ivy league school, giving him the pretentiousness of terse, jargon-filled, academic writing (May and Mr. Mack). He does not seem to harbor anti-Semitic feelings, neither latent (Diana) nor overt (Mohammad). And he does not have the identity hang-ups of half-whiteys (myself, Mr. Mack again, and Emily). Though as his first post indicated, he has some of his own, being Lebanese and all.

Having met with him numerous times, I can say he is not the type to show up 4 hours late (Hanaan), drop off the face of the earth (Nabeel), or turn against KABOBfest (Narcy and Programmer Buydatti). He will be a loyal and committed KABOBer,
like Chaim Sugarman.

  2. Mohammad, why do you hate Jews?

  3. They taught me that in my Palestinian textbooks.

  4. Never mind that. What are boaterisms? Nowt in dictionary or google.

Something you say with a straw hat on? They sound most desirable to me, people with straw hats on say things like “I say, jolly good show” Sounds chaps to a man.

  5. Close: A boaterism is something only an immigrant would say.

For the record, Mohammad is not an anti-semite. He is actually pro-Semitic, so that was a sarcastic remark.

  6. I know this is off topic, but does anyone know where I can get a copy of UnderSiege? I’ve heard about the game, but the website only lets you download a demo level.

  7. Where’s my slingshot? I started the game with an M16. I killed 23 IDF soldiers before they got me!

When did that happen, Will? I’m looking hard for the “real world” experience in this puppy!

  8. Do you have the game, PC, or just the demo? I can’t find a copy for sale anywhere.

I actually played PeaceMaker today, and no matter how long I had a ceasefire, every time I knocked down the separation wall or lessened curfews, the “third intifada” would start and I’d get a game over. Pretty slanted game.

  9. Not that UnderSiege isn’t slanted, of course.

  10. Man, PC, you’re like the Palestinian Rambo… no, you’re like the Palestinian Baruch Goldstein except your victims had guns.

I wonder if in the game, they make it easier to take out IDF soldiers for the sake of encouragement… kind if like how in the video games American kids play, they commit genocide every afternoon.

I guess I can’t blame an Arab for confusing reality with fiction.

  12. The Israelis make a game about peace. The Palestinians make a game about war.

    Classic. Just like real life.

  13. Yes. Because Israelis are peaceful and also abide by UN resolutions and the Geneva Convention. They also don’t build settlements on land that isn’t theirs. They don’t shoot little boys or bulldoze homes either. Oh wait.. they do!

  14. Yes. Because Palestinians are peaceful and also abide by UN resolutions and the Geneva Convention. They also don’t send waves of homicide bombers to butcher innocent human beings. They don’t shoot rockets and mortars at civilian cities and descend into civil war when they are given the first opportunity to govern themselves. Oh wait.. they do!
