Obama for President of Israel?

Ok… I just saw this on “Countdown with Kieth Olbermann” but he repeated it!

OBAMA: Well, let me — let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under a McCain government — administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel’s under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change.

Now my question is… Was he saying (staying true to his middle name… haha.. c’mon Chaim, take a joke!) that Israel is simply alone in it’s quest to usurp, supress, deny, destroy, systematically oppress, and generally miserable-ize (Kabobfest.com. All rights reserved [unless you are Palestinian]) all things Palestinian?

OR… Was Obama insinuating what I always thought? That the U.S. and Israel are essentially interchangeable names (at least in as much as policy is concerned)? Was he giving AIPAC the green light (finally) to replace the U.S. Congress? Maybe he meant, simply, that since he was speaking in an Arab country it would be a good idea to fully disclose which country he was truly representing… As if we don’t know yet. Or perhaps it was just a simple mistake…

Allow me to elaborate:

You know it’s pretty hard being an American, KNOWING that Israel is your best friend… Knowing that the Arabs hate you for your freedom, your material possessions and your dog. Those Arabs HATE your potatoes, your corn. I know that I live in the greatest country in the world (kinda like Israel), where G-d “himself” gave “us” the right to usurp, suppress, deny, destroy, systematically oppress, and generally miserable-ize (again, kinda like Israel) all things… huh??? hmmmm?!?

My peoples… Sadly, I think Obama knew exactly what he was saying…

EVEN if what you said is true, which it is not, we nuked Japan, twice, and firebombed Germany to the ground. Oh yeah, and Vietnam is now one of our closest Asian allies. America has a way of coopting its adversaries instead of destroying them.

They will be naming Iraqi hospitals and universities after Bush. Just watch… maybe Obama, but Bush and Petreus are the ones who secured victory.

What are you talking about? After Obama’s overseas roadtrip, I am voting for Obama. Didn’t you hear, he is going to strengthen US-Israeli ties.

The fact is the Palestine Lobby has failed to get a toehold into American policy. Supporting Israel is a truly bi-partisan cause. I was on a conference call with the House Speaker about a year ago, arranged by AIPAC. She is one of the strongest supporters of Israel there is. Her children are HUGE Zionist who go to Israel all the time.

Maybe you’ve heard of her – Nancy Pelosi.

Honestly, American support for Israel (and Israeli support for America) stem from solid geopolitical interests that no amount of Zionism-bashing will undermine.

You would be absolutely STUNNED how many members of Congress not simply support Israel, but don’t understand why Israel doesn’t just go into Gaza and clean house.

The only reason that Nancy Pelosi’s children are huge supporters of Israel is because Nancy Pelosi’s grandchildren are Jewish. So, is it surprising why “Israeli is a strong friend of Israel?” Israeli Americans support themselves, as usual, because they love the incest. But the line tends to be crossed when Israeli American, Jewish Americans, and their families put the interests of Israel above American interests which is sadly the case with Pelosi who wouldn’t know the Middle East from a Barney’s sweater if it weren’t for her familial Israel bias.

An alternative theory is that Obama was just tired from being grilled about Israel. Like, his campaign manager, David Axelrod (a Jewish man?) prepped him one too many times with the Israel stuff, like it’s the most important thing on the agenda.

This whole Obama thing is starting to look like a huge balloon now because all of his campaign money is coming from Wall Street, rich lawyers, and the richest religion in America: Judiasm. That’s right. Look it up. I’m sure if so much as an anti-Israeli cough comes out of Obama, he’ll lose everything.

No, actually, I wasn’t one of those complaining he was a Muslim. That actually would have made him unique among American politicians who are mostly of the Christian-Jewish persuasion.

And, I can single out any Jewish politicians I want. It’s a free country. You are a people, and as with any group that has a common identity, there is the potential for individual bias based in ideology of the larger group. I can fact check. It’s not like, Jewish people are being thrown into Gitmo.

He is a “charismatic” politician who, in the rare parts of his speeches that mean anything at all, promises all sorts of nonsense to get elected so it is hard to know what to expect.

Idiot Bush notwithstanding, history tells us that hard liners can sometimes be better at sorting tensions, like Nixon and China, Regan and the cold war.

It also tells us that while either side has uncritical support from a major ally there will be no solution. The main reason the IRA sued for peace was that their funding dried up after 9/11 got Americans thinking about terrorism.

I suspect this issue does need a really hard line approach. Israel needs to be forced to help create a real Palestinian state, not bits of what has not been settled with trade with the outside world on Israel’s terms. Any aid to Palestine must be strictly conditional on effective action to halt bombings/missile attacks and no amount of emotional blackmail about the suffering should alter the decision.

We should all of us be prepared to live with the consequences of our own decision.

Xoggoth, all this has been tried already. In the 90s, there was no need to “force Israel”… I can tell you stories. American Jews from my neck of the woods went to Ramallah to help train Palestinian civil service workers and bureaucrats, to teach Palestinians how to do international banking and finance, police, roadbuilding, etc. These are just the examples I am personally familiar with. It doesn’t include the thousands of volunteers sent by the EU, USAID, UN, etc.

Israel itself was equipping the PA police and security forces – paid by America, manufactured by Israel. I remember all the slogans.

The only reason you believe that Israel should be “forced” to do anything, is because you know nothing will happen if you try to “force” the Palestinians to do something.

A paradigm has been created. The Palestinians stick to their three no’s – no negotiation, no recognition, no peace. The international community starts pushing on the only side that is willing to negotiate, recognize and seek peace – Israel. We did this before. Israelis are not going to go through this again, not with Obama or McCain. No piece of paper signed by the PA is worth another intifada.

The fact of the matter is, everything is fine right now. Palestinian terror attacks are completely manageable with Israel’s security arrangements. Israel is growing like crazy – 5%+ per year – and is about to secure official peace with Syria, and defacto peace with most Arab states.

The Palestinians are not being massacred or abused. They are perfectly free to create the kind of society they want, which is what they have done – an Islamist terror group rules Gaza, a corrupt Marxist/Fascist blend rules the West Bank.

In terms of activism, all that is necessary is to encourage strong, independent judicial oversight over Israeli security measures, and to continually enhance training for IDF recruits to be more sensitive in the territories, while still accomplishing the mission of protecting the homeland.

Until the majority of Israelis and the international community accept that the only long term solution is to unify the land, this situation will stand. It’s just not that bad. That’s why no one in the international community cares, besides giving a few speeches.
