Who should I vote for, Rex?
In perhaps one of the most important markers of a candidate’s strength, Obama is losing to McCain. A poll, yes another one, measured how pet owners are coming down on this election.
An AP-Yahoo! News poll found that pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent, with dog owners particularly in McCain’s corner. The Kibble-and-Bits voter demographic, like Soccer Moms, NASCAR Dads, and Jihadi Immigrants before them, are positioned to swing complete elections. Why exactly, I am not sure. But it sure makes this poll seem relevant.
The reason for the gap could be that many WASPS, whether pioneers of gentrification or suburban gated-types, have dogs to protect themselves from men on Obama’s side of the phenotypical spectrum.
Or it could be that Barack Obama, unlike McCain, does not have a pet at home. This gives him another check in the undercover Muslim column.

Wild dogs are rampant in the Middle East. They are opportunistic scavengers and, unlike in other parts of the world, were never really domesticated by Arabs to fulfill specific needs – like raising sheep or carrying sleds.
Going off on a limb, but I’d say dogs to Arabs are the equivalent of rats to Westerners – filthy, disease ridden, savage, opportunistic… all those things that civilized people abhor in other people.
Will, most Americans don’t know the contempt that Arabs have for dogs. You are just playing out the biases and racial prejudices you THINK Americans have towards Arabs.
By doing so, you can justify the sometimes hateful and unjust attitude you have towards American society.

Yes, I just heard a segment on NPR about Saudi pets yesterday – Sri Lankan and Malaysian women who come to work as house maids and are locked up for years, beaten, raped, denied their wages or the ability to leave.
The Malaysian embassy has a shelter housing 200 women at any given time who managed to flee their “owners”, but this is just the tip of the iceberg, since most of these women are never let out into daylight.
There was a case recently of a woman who was beaten badly. She managed to get out of the house and run to a hospital. There was gangrene on her fingers and toes from repeated beatings and they had to amputate them.
Her “owners” confessed to beating her and there was a “fair and balanced trial”, covered extensively by the media. The “owners” were let go, without even having to pay her for years of backwages, and the woman was sent home emptyhanded… well, she didn’t actually have hands at this point.
Such pets are common not only in Saudi, but throughout the Arab world. I think Palestinians prefer Russian girls.
