KABOBfest Homework: Listen & Discuss

During his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Senator Barack Obama stated…

If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It’s that fundamental belief — I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper — that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family. “E pluribus unum.” Out of many, one.

These days he won’t so much as let a hijab wearing girl sit behind him (Hell, even Wahabis let hijabies sit behind them!). So let’s bust out our Q-tips, clean our ears, and give tonight’s presidential nomination acceptance speech a good listen.

Maybe he’ll resort to his old ways and call for the strengthening of Arab/Muslim-American Civil liberties. Or, maybe he’ll continue on his current path of disassociating from anything and everything Arab or Muslim. After all, today’s Arab/Muslim sympathizer is like yesterday’s “nigger lover,” no?

Who knows, maybe he won’t even mention us at all. Things are just safer that way… or are they?

Let’s wait and listen. Tomorrow we can discuss in what light (if at all) he mentions our community.

  1. Buydatti,

You’re not that naive are you? Do you think someone gets to the level Obama has reached and doesn’t belong to the entities that have contolled politics forever? Money. Money. Money. If he wasn’t on board with the various corporate and lobby entities that control all politicians, he wouldn’t be the Dems nominee. If you’re looking for change or anything positive to come from Obama or McCain, you’re being silly.

  13. Pali-American. You still earn an F- because you’re not following instructions. The homework assignment isn’t asking you to write your prediction of what Obama is going to say, but your analysis of what he said after he says it. F MINUS.

Why do you oppose Palestinians having equal rights under the law that controls them?

  24. Why do you oppose Palestinians having equal rights under the law that controls them?

Why would you ask me such a question? I’m not Palestinian. I’m not Israeli. I don’t have an opinion on the matter, as you frame it for me. I’m anti-Palestinian because Palestinians are anti-American. Palestinians like to be my enemy? Fine… they are my enemy. So why would you ask me what rights I feel my enemy should have? How is that relevant? How much do Palestinians care about my rights? Or the rights of Americans? Not at all, correct?

Glad to see you aren’t denying your identity. I’d ask the KABOBers to out you, if I didn’t know they were doing the same thing with teh sock puppets. Obviously something they think is pretty cool.

By the way, since you asked me a question let me ask you one: Do you actually believe that having a sleazy foul mouthed abusive dirtbag like you supporting any cause ever helps that cause? It makes me very happy that you aren’t on the same side as me on any issue :)

  25. PC,

I met a Palestinian in the West Bank who is not anti-American, so your statment is not true.

You and I agree on some issues, for example, you admit you are a bigot and a racist. I agree.

So do you think Palestinians should have equal rights under the law that controls them?

  26. I met a Palestinian in the West Bank who is not anti-American, so your statment is not true.

He probably thought you were in the CIA when he told you that.

Isn’t it strange how, of all the people on this earth, it is only Palestinians who expect sympathy from their self-created enemies? It’s almost like a bigot, who accuses his victims of being racist, isn’t it?

Posted by programmer craig | August 28, 2008, 5:32 pm
  27. Yeah PC,

I actually agree with you. Those pesky Palestinians, they need to withdraw their forces immediatley and end this nonsense. Bring the troops home and go back to their borders. I don’t understand why they puth themselves in the position to be subject to a law that they have no rights under.

    Posted by Pali-American | August 28, 2008, 5:39 pm
  28. Why on earth do you expect me to give a shit about what Palestinians do or don’t do? I saw Palestinians dancing in the street on 9/11 along with every other American… don’t you think I might be more concerned with bigger problems than the relatively trivial problems of Palestinians (who hate me and mine anyway) in the middle east? You want to solve your problems, I’m all for that… just don’t try to make them mine. They aren’t. You should try getting some sympathy from Iranians, they love you right? And you love them… it’s a damn love fest, so why do you come crying to me, your self-proclaimed enemy? Or maybe you could go get the Russians or the Chinese to help you out?

  33. No mention of Arabs and Muslims.

He should have mentioned what I mentioned here in my comments.

Oh, no… wait… he should have promised to impose… I mean, create… peace in the middle east! Right? And to get murderous sociopaths like “pali-american” their right to be terrorists without being persecuted.

  34. With the exception of saying that gay and lesbian Americans should have the right to visit each other in hospitals and not face discrimination, Barack Obama made no other reference to civil liberties tonight.

This is really unfortunate. Considering the Bush administration’s flagrant violation of the Arab/Muslim-American community’s civil rights post 2001, it should have at least warranted an ambiguous reference – no?

At the last DNC he said that the violation of one person’s civil liberties is the same as violating his and everyone else’s. Since then, these violations have increased – yet tonight he didn’t even bother to mention them.

He did say (and repeat) that he’s his brother’s and sister’s “keeper” – which makes me wonder what kind of brother he really is to remain silent on such an important issue – one that effects all Americans, regardless of ethnicity or religion.

Yes – the war, economy, energy, taxes, abortion, etc are all important issues. But what’s more important than civil rights? Aren’t they what make this country so great?

Good speech. He’s a hell of an inspiration speaker. I just wish he would have touched more on civil liberties… in any substantive way.

Posted by Programmer Buydatti | August 28, 2008, 8:35 pm
  35. Barack won’t mention anything that white people can’t relate to.

Lots of white people are gay. Lots of white people are female.

None of them are Arab. None of them are black.

  36. My following comment speaks to all in this thread; my claim is it does not matter who the candidate is; my proposal is a one six year term will initiate the “change” everyone is asking for.

It does not matter who is President.. haven’t you noticed? It says somewhere in the tests of time that the next president must be a Democrat. The reason? …due to miserable turn down in the economy.

Historically, a Democrat in office helps the economy return to some kind of balance.

This is why the only serious change is in the alteration of the economic cycle… Heavy concept, for sure!

That is why I propose a six-year, one-time term for the US Executive Presidency, instead of two fours. This is because me, the small business man, a bread and butter staple of AMerica, suffers the most as latent Republican President lame duck sits out his last two years.

As an empirical adjustment in political strategy dogmas, whatever’s, Republicans go to or get involved in world wars using the military, Democrats stay out of wars and look to internal campaigns… cut military budgets and stress education.

Clearly, the baton today sincerely has to be passed to the Democrats… regardless of who the candidate is.

Someone must have said: “Okay, John [McCain] you can run but you won’t win…” We need six years of Democrat dogma. You see, “It’s a charade.”

Shoot, you could put Kid Rock up there, in front of 22 virgin hijab wearing girls sitting behind him, as long as he is Democrat for 2008.

My advice to all comments in this discussion is to look at the irony of KaoBob’s article. The point is drop all the pseudo-finger pointing and get your wheels moving in the implicit nature of Democrats’ programming. Be more prepared and decided.

Arab, Pakistan, Illegal Mexican Immigrants, Terrorists, Russian Mafia, Italians, Firemen, Work Visa Workers, students, Texans … it doesn’t matter. Everyone in this country carries a check book [check card] and when the time comes everyone gets it out to decide how he/she/it will vote.

    Thank you for listening.

    That’s right.

Palestinians are not on the wrong side of history. “Pro-Palestinian activists,” on the other hand, very much are.

    “Our community.” Please.

  38. It’s true that he didn’t mention anything about Arab-Americans or civil liberties he’s trying to win an election, and the hot topic right now is the economy. That doesn’t make other issues less important, this just happens to be the subject of the hour.

    Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008, 8:04 am
  39. Well, he didn’t mention Muslim- or Arab-Americans, but there was the “deter Iran” verbiage that was side-by-side with “protect Israel.” And there was “finish the job with Al Qaeda talk” as well as the “McCain won’t even follow Bin Laden to his cave” primitivizing rhetoric. Also, when listing the Big Problems That Face Us In The 21st Century, he put terrorism at the top of the list — a subtly racist bit of bullshittery.

    Posted by Saladin | August 29, 2008, 8:14 am
  40. Wait, I’m an Arab-American and I don’t find any of that “racist.”

Deterring Iran has nothing to do with us. Protecting Israel is bias, but that’s not new and certainly isn’t racist.

And yes, he did mention getting Al-Qaeda. But so what? Fuck Bin Laden. Let them catch him. He doesn’t represent Arabs or Islam.

Lastly, saying terrorism is a big problem the US must face in the 21st century is TRUE. How they go about facing it is the real issue.

It’s important to point out racism when we see it, but let’s not make things up.
