“The opinion page of the Wall Street Journal for August 28, 2008 headlined a piece by Juan Williams, a respected figure in the world of political reporting and analysis. The piece was entitled “Obama Needs to Take a Stand on Race and Other Issues.”

I agree with Mr. Williams that it would be great if Senator Obama did so, however this is asking the impossible. Senator Obama cannot do so without shattering the image he has so carefully crafted from day one of his political ambitions; an image that exists because virtually no one is willing to look behind it to see the real man; a man who is not interested in the vast majority of what he speaks about. [...]

In short a man who is seeking personal power and prestige for its own sake, and who would throw the entire nation “under the bus” to get it.

I agree. Oprah “cried her eyelashes off.” Chris Matthews’ voice kept cracking in emotion. At least one couple got engaged.

So much of the time, the crowd was cheering him after saying absolutely nothing of substance. All he had to do was take a pause and the wild screams would follow. Example:

“I will cut 20th century programs that don’t fit into the 21st century.”

[WHOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!]

What did he even mean? Before cheering, don’t folks want to know what programs he has in mind? But no:

[OH MY GAWD!!!!! OH MY GOD BARACK OBAMA!!!! I CAN TOTALLY DIE NOW!!]

People really want to believe that a black president will prove that we’ve figured out how to do race.

Barack Obama won’t win by pointing out the existence of structural racism. He’ll win by doing the work _of_ racism, like taking Father’s Day as an opportunity to tell black men how much of a failure they are.

He’s able to say and do those things even Hillary’s crazy ass wouldn’t have.

But he needs to keep proving that racism doesn’t exist — he’s the embodiment of it after all, while continually proving that he’s not Muslim instead of saying that there’s nothing wrong with being Muslim in this country.

And why? Because there _is_ something wrong with being Muslim in this country. You _cannot_ be Muslim in this country.

Nobody wants to admit it, for the same reasons nobody wants to admit Obama isn’t as great as they might think.

Everyone was keen to point out that it’s 45 years after MLK’s I Have a Dream speech. Nobody wanted to remind anyone that it was only 3 years after Hurricane Katrina.
