  1. QuiQui dear, do you really think you will accomplish something by insulting people? It’s a low for of discourse. I have been around people who are so full of their stuffy principles that they can’t vote for Obama. Most of them are dirty, mentally ill, and/or extremely unhappy.

But I digress. This type of discourse is not productive and will not help you to accomplish your aims. It’s a little bit ivory-towerish except the ivory tower needs a bath.

  2. Ha, ha. These kick ass.

Safiyyah, if you knew anything about the filthy ivory tower — it is obvious you don’t — then you would know that all of those “intellectuals” and even the “activist scholars” as they like to call themselves are all voting for Obama too. And that’s why it needs a bath.

I think you need to learn some more, kid. I don’t think QuiQui is trying to be your friend.

  3. woo hoo, i am a cowardly tower Arab-American Intellectual. I probably do need a bath though.

I tend to agree with safiyyah on this one. Of course if these were funnier it would be all good.

  4. Remind me again, Nimr, what you know about funny?

  5. Brain-dead Americans will send us a president who is also brain dead like them. You guys are really good for laugh.

  6. Well done, QuiQui. Funny, and so very true. Nowadays the ivory tower is occupied by self-important liberals with a pathological addiction to false hope and magical thinking who think all a man needs to be the Messiah is black skin and a “D” after his name. With these two qualities in possession, nothing he says or does on any subject matters in judging whether there’s a dime’s worth of difference between hm and any other plutocratic sellout on the market.

  7. Just curious, QuiQui, can you share who you’re voting for, if any?

  8. Of course, I should have known! If an Arab or Muslim votes for Obama then they’re either cowardly or have no self respect.

If I may, I have a humble piece of advice for you Qui Qui. Anyone who publicly labels people for voting for a candidate that they disagree with is intellectually stunted.

You post excerpts from books on this site, and include citations, and basically make an all around effort to appear as academic as possible. Truth be told, you’re an idiot. And while it might seem hipocritcal of me to call you out publicly after chastising you for doing the same, I’m only passing judgment on you, based on your myriad of posts here at Kabobfest. You, meanwhile, seem to show no hesitation from painting all Obama supporting Arabs and Muslims with the same broad brush. And why? Because you don’t agree with Obama 100%?

I’ve spent time on some of the most liberal college campuses, from Ann Arbor to Berkley, and time and time again I’m shocked to see that the most ‘liberal’ and ‘open-minded’ students are, in fact, the most closed-minded, ignorant, and regressive.

So keep up your posts here if it makes you feel smarter, Qui Qui. And while the buttons were funny, and good for a laugh, the underlying subtext is quite damaging for Arab-Americans, Muslims, and generally all individuals who tend to agree with such radical ideas as not stereotyping and forward progress.

Truth be told, I’m surprised McCain didn’t pick you as a vp candidate. You and Palin seem to have a lot in common.

  9. Hi Lulu,

I was going to vote for Nader, but he didn’t make it on my state’s ballot. But I donated to him! All of twenty-five bucks.

So now I think I’ll vote for McKinney/Clemente.

Other than that, the ballot is packed full of worthless fools.

  10. WHERE CAN I GET THESE BUTTONS? I have a couple of friends I’d like to sneak up and pin them onto.

Oh look. It’s that capitalist pig Amer man we all chased out of here last summer. And he has “no self-respect”! Where have you been, busy crying about your money? HA HA HA.

  11. Barack Obama will make a better president than Ralph Nader would.

  12. Hey anonymous, I haven’t been busy crying over money, I’ve been busy working like most people in this country. But thanks for looking out, homey.

Another non-response from Qui Qui? Par for the course. And Mckinney for President? Interesting choice, Q^2

  13. QuiQuiDon't you know, you cannot insult the Messiah or his followers! You are crushing their audacity of hope, and you are stomping on the change they can believe in. You cannot tell them that they are not the ones they have been waiting for, because Obama has promised a "kingdom right here on earth". He is "Our American Prayer", "Son of Promise", "Child of Hope". Join in and hold up your hands and form that O. Remember what he told his followers "a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama". QuiQui, you must not extinguish the light!!!!

  14. Obama doesn’t have any buttons about Arabs on his web site. Women for Obama, Veterans for Obama, Latinos for Obama, Blacks for Obama, Gays for Obama.

GAYS. I can’t believe any gay person is still supporting him after that VP debate.

He even has a button with his name written in Hebrew. Of course. Remember from that same debate? “We both love Israel.”

How is anybody truly concerned with the injustices inflicted on Palestinians though U.S. monetary, political, and military support even considering an Obama (or McCain) presidency?

Rather than ask ourselves why our so-called Arab “leaders” are not speaking up against the way the Obama campaign continues to disrespect what it means to be Arab, what it means to be Muslim, thus what it means to be a human being, we need to realize that looking for someone to lead us will only continue to take us on mistaken and dangerous paths.

    We need organize ourselves.

    NOBAMA. NOMCCAIN.

  15. Kanye Maghrebi perhaps you are right… I don’t know. It’s a difficult and sobering decision and anyone who mocks someone about that is not helping anything. You don’t get people to agree with you by mocking them. If you are right, you should be able to speak with people, not mock them. That is a job for Sarah Palin. I think, perhaps, finally, I have outgrown Kabobfest. As salam aleikum to all of you.

  16. Can we get a Wall Street Crooks for Obama button?

    Posted by salma | October 13, 2008, 6:19 pm
  17. these are great! im totally wearing one of these during the debates.

  18. QuiQui: These buttons are brilliant if only because they highlight the fact that many opposing camps have been swept up in the Obama Campaign’s sloganeering. I guess from an Obama supporter’s perspective, a comprehensive Middle East Peace Treaty between the Palestinians and the Israelis would satisfy both Arab Americans and Jewish Americans. However I can’t help thinking that someone is going to feel disappointed and betrayed.

By the way, I met Nader once and he left a strong impression on me. He was an impressive man and he struck me as honest, well meaning and principled. One of our teachers at the Jewish, decidedly Zionist High School I attended took us to hear him speak at Concordia University. Go figure eh?

  19. “”GAYS. I can’t believe any gay person is still supporting him after that VP debate.”"

When the grievances/oppression you face are an order of magnitude above anything people writing on this blog have to face on a day-to-day basis, you don’t usually bother making the perfect the enemy of the good?

Not to mention that stated positions in debates and what actually happens in office are two different things? And that plenty of people are willing to miss out on the right rhetoric if they get the right substance, wrapped in a smooth package that’s *more likely to actually survive the political process*?

Not to mention Barack’s being better than McCain on almost every major issue?

  20. “Not to mention that stated positions in debates and what actually happens in office are two different things?”

Really? So are you willing to bet that an Obama presidency will fight the Democratic Party’s position against gay marriage? It was under a Democratic administration that the Defense of Marriage Act was forced on us, I think it’s safe to say that Obama-Biden will continue this trend of opression.

  22. “”So are you willing to bet that an Obama presidency will fight the Democratic Party’s position against gay marriage?”"

Uh, yes? This falls under the category of ‘kinda fucking obvious’?

“”It was under a Democratic administration that the Defense of Marriage Act was forced on us, I think it’s safe to say that Obama-Biden will continue this trend of opression.”"

Yay for having only a cursory knowledge of political history! DOMA was passed by Clinton, the triangulating, ‘third-way’, social-conservative president who fired Jocelyn Elders for suggesting masturbation wasn’t evil and privately told Kerry he thought Kerry should support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

This also happens to be, y’know, the wing of the party that Obama spent a year fighting and defeating, and whom he’s least beholden to in office.

BUT CLEARLY SINCE THEY BOTH HAVE A ‘D’ NEXT TO THEIR NAME ITS A SAFE BET THEY’RE PRACTICALLY THE SAME!!111

  23. I like the “RACISM IS OVER, 11-04-08″ button the best. You really should think of selling these, guys.

    Posted by Carol | October 16, 2008, 5:27 pm
  24. Joe, talk about ignorance, the Obama campaign is unequivocally oppossed to gay marriage, and oppossed to overturning DOMA. This is a fact.

    Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2008, 7:19 am
  25. the integrity of both candidates has gone out of the window ever since they rushed back to bailout their beloved corporations. its also a reflection on the sheep who voted and will vote for them. Sadly Joe still believes that Obama is worth his salt, when his and McCain’s policies are nothing more than the ivory of socialism.

  26. Hi QuiQui,

question from a long-time lurker — are your versions of the muslims and arabs for obama pins meant to mock muslim and arab americans for voting obama, or more narrowly, those who actually wear the original buttons?

i’m curious cause the way i see it, it’s undeniable that ultimately a mccain/palin administration (and the possibility of a President Palin that comes with it. A PRESIDENT PALIN), would be far far more disastrous both domestically and internationally than if obama’s elected. you know when something is just so bad, so cringe- and nausea- and high blood pressure-inducing, that you can’t even reconcile yourself with the possibility that it just might happen? that’s what i keep thinking when i think of mccain/palin. it just. can’t. happen…dammit. and i say this with full understanding of obama’s uniquely despicable statements on israel given his social justice background and presumably his real knowledge on the scope of the issue (the one in a million chance that an incoming american pres, despite what he “needed to say to get elected,” just may have a substantial understanding of the palestinian narrative and a modicum of compassion…whether that would or even logistically/realistically make even the smallest difference is another question altogether). Long story short(-er), I’m a Muslim Arab American who’ll be voting Obama with no reservations but with much cynicism, and with a total understanding/respect/frustration for those who want to send a message by voting for nader or other 3rd-party candidates, and even with a strong agreement with the principle/sentiment behind that (preferably-briefly-deferred-because- good-God-the-stakes-are-way-too-high-especially-if-you’re-in-ohio-and-your-vote-actually-matters) message.

while i definitely don’t believe muslims and arabs should be maligned for voting obama by fellow members of our communities, actually proudly wearing a Muslim for Obama button is different. it’s kinda like being that clingy, sulking but inexplicably devoted puppy that keeps hanging around no matter how many times your owner shoos you away. or, you know, kicks you in the face. at least that’s the first image that popped into my head when i first saw a button. and the Arab Americans for Barack Hussein Obama facebook group is full of stoopids. too many levels of stoopidity in that title to even bother to dissect in this already ramblingly filled box. i’m casting my vote for him with confidence that it is the only reasonable, pragmatic, hopefully beneficial thing to do, but would not for a second think of branding myself as a supporter of Obama IN THE NAME of my Muslim/Arab- American identities. that just doesn’t make sense. so if your intent is to beat some sense into those crazies, i’d say carry on. but if it wasn’t, i’d humbly suggest making your point and moving on to things that make more sense to rain divisive mockery on, like Muslims for McCain or Arab Americans for McCain, which actually exist, officially, with logos and buttons and everything.

    with regards,

    Nacho

  27. It's funny reading all of this stuff now. I wonder what everyone on here thinks about this after Obama's first 8 months in office.
