Egypt

Back to Black

Tonight large swaths of the Gaza Strip are, once again, bathed in darkness as the territory’s sole power generator ran out of the fuel required to operate.

The depletion of fuel supplies comes six days after Israel sealed Gaza’s border crossings again. For the duration of the 4 month old ceasefire, Israel had allowed sporadic amounts of fuel and necessary supplies in (but no desperately needed infrastructure materials), yet the amounts were never close to those required to give the 1.5 million humans caged in Gaza a chance for some semblance of a dignified life, and the majority of its residents were forced to rely on smuggled foods and fuel from Egypt.

That changed when, on US election day last Tuesday Israel carried out an incursion into the Strip for the first time since the truce took hold, killing one Palestinian, injuring several and demolishing two residential homes. Several hours later Israeli warplanes bombed the northern and southern areas of Gaza, killing six more Palestinians. The following day, more airstrikes killed one more Palestinian.
The Zionist entity claimed that the incursion was not a violation of the ceasefire and was a necessary defensive act because it claimed that it had information indicating Palestinians were going to launch an attack on Israeli soldiers from a tunnel in the area. Let us assume that Israel does not have a history of launching unprovoked attacks during heavy US news cycles. The story that the incursion was a defensive act has been gobbled up readily by Israel’s supporters, but not a single one has explained the unrelated killings later that night and the next night that left 7 other Palestinians dead.

Naturally, Palestinian fighters responded by launching dozens of homemade rockets at Israel in the aftermath of the killings. It is at this point that Zionuts choose to begin the story; it is why they are able to tell themselves that Palestinian rockets broke the ceasefire, and why they are able to justify the fact that 1.5 million people have been without fuel and wheat for 6 days now.

  1. what does that have to do with the election day? or what do you think is the real reason they carried out the incursion on the election day?

  2. Because while the entire world fixes its gaze at the US, no one is really paying attention to Israel – hence, it’s not going to make the front page because that has already been reserved for large clippings of the new US president. That’s the point.
