Submitted by Mohammad as an update to the Closure post:
Gaza’s sole powerplant was closed down today, even after Israel let in one day’s worth of fuel to power the generators. The frequent stoppages have damaged the plant, and Israel has banned the entry of parts.
The 30-something trucks that were allowed in yesterday after 3 weeks of closure do not meet more than 5% of the populations daily needs. Before this round of total closures started (i.e. during the ceasefire), the amount allowed in never exceeded 15% of Gaza’s needs.
There is no heating or cooking gas in Gaza, people are burning cardboard or wood to cook, or using clay ovens.
With no electricity, it has become impossible to pump chlorine into Gaza’s already dangerously polluted drinking water.
For more than a year, millions of gallons of untreated wastewater has been pumped into Gaza’s waters. With no fuel and electricity, the sewage plants have not been functioning.
More than 130 medicines have disappeared from Gaza.
More than 260 critically ill patients have died after being banned from traveling for medical aid.
