ADC Action Alert:
Situation in Gaza Desperate, Contact Your Elected Officials
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) calls on the United States and the international community to immediately pressure Israel to lift its blockade. It must act without delay to stop the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Israel blockaded Gaza over a month ago and has only allowed five shipments of humanitarian supplies to enter Gaza. Only enough supplies are being let into to prevent mass starvation and widespread disease, despite the facts that reports indicate the population in Gaza, the majority of whom rely on food aid to survive, is already suffering from chronic malnutrition and serious vitamin deficiencies.
Serious fuel shortages have also led to widespread power cuts across Gaza City. Water and sewage facilities are not functioning. To further compound the dire situation, hospital lack medicine and supplies.

Hope it works, but — how’s the pressure on Egypt to open their side of the border going?
Posted by Joe | December 11, 2008, 2:35 pmThanks will for that reminder – I emailed all my reps. In addition to the ADC, what other Arab-American organizations would you recommend one to join for increasing the numbers of such groups, and hopefully therefore their influence? (My family don’t know this but they are receiving memberships to such groups for holiday gifts. B O asked us all to participate so I am on it.)
Posted by alfannaan | December 11, 2008, 11:47 pmAlfannan, if you want to make a difference, I’d suggest supporting groups like J-Street, pro-peace Jewish American groups trying to counter the influence of AIPAC. Gotta fight it from both sides.
Posted by Joe | December 12, 2008, 7:18 pmAnyone truly concerned with the fate of the Palestinian people should help them shed their Hamas government and its preoccupation with Jihad and the destruction of Israel. The plight of the Palestinians is owing to ignorance (teaching children that Jews are apes and pigs, and glorifying being Shaeen) and resources directed at military operations instead of developing industry and wealth for their people. Take for example the green houses in Gaza. The Israelis made millions exporting vegetables to the EU. Wolf of the World Bank went to great lengths to pass them to the Palestinians intact in Aug 2005. yet within a week they were trashed! Why! It is because the Palestinians are wreathed in ignorance, jihad and victimology. Shame on the "Progressive left" for supporting the perpetration of this tragedy!
Posted by Dave | January 6, 2009, 2:55 amSo you want the people of Palestine to build industry and wealth while living under an occupation that has been recognized as illegal and a violation of Human Rights. Maybe Israel should recognize the devastation its occupation has caused and recognize that a state, no matter how divine it may think it is, cannot arbitrarily do is it pleases- especially when we talk about the actually lived experiences of other people.
