Speaking of Bono and liberals… Do you remember when the phrase “cause du jour” was used to mock those activists who go “cause hoppin’” ?
This group is probably missing the joke, they have a daily email to instruct their liberal supporters on what to be passionate about that day. A few days ago it was Gaza… The day before that it was asking McDonalds to support worker’s right to choose act, before that it was something against seal clubbing, Alaskan wolf hunting, or whale overfishing. ..
I am always amazed at how these people solve such complex problems on 24-hour cycles.
A few months ago, they added this Arab guy to their list, Samer, to deal with all issues brown, he may be bringing them to the forefront, so hats off to him, but the whole idea of this campaign is pathetic.
Hi Fayyad, On Monday, Masouda al-Samouni lost her 10-month-old son to an Israeli missile attack. She had been preparing food for the baby when the missile struck. “He died hungry,” she said. Israel launched its “all-out war” on Hamas in the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas’ repeated rocket fire on Israeli towns. But with 1.5 million people, the Gaza Strip is one of the most densely crowded areas in the world, and Israeli artillery, tank and missile fire can easily cause civilian casualties and deaths. At least a quarter to one-third of deaths in the recent attacks have been civilians. Unlike other conflicts where there’s a chance to flee the war zone, Gaza itself has become the war zone, and there’s nowhere else for the population to go. Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas rocket attacks, but this war is a disproportionate response, placing thousands of civilians at risk of injury and death. So far, Israel has resisted international calls for a ceasefire. Urge President Bush to push the Israeli government for a ceasefire. Please act today! » Take action link: http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/Aex29/YaIz/xqZe Samer P.S. For a quick update on ceasefire efforts, check out Care2′s Human Rights Cause Channel.

Thanks for taking action!

Posted by brian | January 19, 2009, 11:30 pmI agree Fayyad – I’m also worried that a lot of people are rushing to become involved and they don’t know a lot.
I have mixed feelings about the attempt to raise money out of the humanitarian crisis. I certainly think it has the ability to open Westerners’ eyes to the situation, as so many of the merely consume relief efforts. If Gaza is like Katrina or Darfur – perhaps more people will think to learn about the situation. On the other hand, it will disappear and the underlying problems will never be addressed.
good post
