I find Al-Jazeera’s Gaza Twitter page to be a very useful resource for keep abreast of news not framed by Israeli PR spinsters and American dumbassedness. Its brevity means it is usefully devoid of the “he said she said” style of reporting, the American media’s deformed version of investigative journalism.
Although Twitter posts are inherently limited in terms of information, they are useful heuristics outlining developments in quick, readable form. You can always look for further depth elsewhere. This format helps one navigate the flow of information, and since its war, state-driven misinformation. Al-Jazeera covers news items largely absent from traditional mainstream news.
Their most recent updates include:
- Protest begins in Egypt’s Arish city after Friday prayers. Hundreds of people rally for Gaza, call on Egypt to expel Israel’s ambassador.
- Egyptian authorities banned people from praying in Al Fateh mosque on Friday after a call from Hamas for Muslims to demonstrate over Gaza.
- The Turkish Prime Minister, who is touring the region, has called on #Israel to put an end to its military operations against Gaza.
- Israel has bombed a mosque in the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza where the Hamas leader killed on Thursday gave Friday sermons.
- West Bank closed as “security precaution” ahead of Friday prayer in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Protests are expected in support of Gaza.
- The Israeli military has struck at least 50 targets across the Gaza Strip on Friday.
