We’re receiving requests to post on Bono’s concert for Obama yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial where he mentioned Palestine. The Nation is going nuts. This is how that alleged “shout out” went:
“This is not just an American dream,” [Bono] said, adding that it was “also an Irish dream, a European dream, an African dream… an Israeli dream… and also a Palestinian dream.”
So anyway, we’re supposed to believe, like the Nation article does, that this is all nice and wonderful and should wet ourselves, like the Nation article does.
But what all of this excitement really is, and make no mistake, is testament to how fucking low we’re allowing the bar to be set for us that we’re supposed to celebrate a mention that, as Mhmd aptly put it, “sounds like the regular stupid liberal drivel…israelis have dreams, palestinians have dreams, if only they’d be nice to each other.”
Liberal drivel, indeed. This is the type of crap that will bring about the two-state non-solution.
These people are the enemy. There are sides to be taken here, asshole. I’ve stopped believing liberals were a little better than the fascists; at least the fascists let you know exactly who you’re dealing with.
FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY
Programmer Buydatti: (in an e-mail forward) Bono from U2 just mentioned Palestine during inauguration concert in front of Obama! It came at the end of the song Pride (In the Name of Love) and “for the Palestinian dream”
Fadi: i heard he also screamed for a “Free Israel”… no joke, from somebody that was there.
Programmer Buydatti: Oh, well in that case Bono could suck it…
Emily: friend of mine said he sang ‘israelis want peace, palestinians want peace.’ blablabla
Fadi: Ok, here’s what may have actually happened: “Let freedom ring. On this spot where we’re standing 46 years ago Dr. King had a dream. On Tuesday, that dream comes to pass,” before launching into ‘Pride (In The Name Of Love)’, U2′s tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “This is not just an American dream,” he said, adding that it was “also an Irish dream, a European dream, an African dream… an Israeli dream… and also a Palestinian dream.” (The Nation)
Fayyad: John Nichols (the author) is an asshole. The quintessential liberal type QQ loves to hate…
Will: We got a request to put this video up. Perhaps someone can find it and post their thoughts?
QuiQui: Can I veto? This is ridiculous. If we do it, can we make a post about how fucking low the bar is for us that we’re celebrating a fucking liberal shout out like that, which also calls for freedom for Israel? For fucking Israel? Take fucking sides, asshole. I hate bono.
Mhmd: admittedly i have not seen the video, but it sounds like the regular stupid liberal drivel…israelis have dreams, palestinians have dreams, if only they’d be nice to each other. if 1300 people hadnt been slaughtered in gaza this month, Bono wouldn’t have remembered us.
Diana: You are too young to be so cynical, Mohammad.
Diana: I think that it should be part of Fayyad’s post of the “cause of the day” – this week it’s Gaza; next week it is the blue whale.

Qui Qui, have you gone mad? These people are the ENEMY? Are you a George Bush clone? Are you high? You live a privileged life in a fancy University and day dream about revolutions, yet talk as if you actually do anything that makes a difference.
It’s easy for you to be a keyboard warrior because you don’t live in the real world.
Hate Obama, hate Bono, hate whoever the hell you want. Just stop trying to act like there’s any intelligent thought behind what you say. Because there isn’t. And it’s getting old.
You’re just a bitter student who’s more skilled at using profanity ane expressing rage than actually articulating an argument.
Let Will and Mo handle the heavy lifting, dear.
Posted by Bob | January 19, 2009, 7:20 amHmmmm… hawking the ‘Dream’ on Martin Luther King Jr Day? — now that’s original, BONO!
Good pro call Bono. “I laughed so heartily that the neighbors rooster crowed.”
However, now we at MooPig must back track to find out what the odds were on Bono’s saying these words in his concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial….?
“We missed a big payoff, since we did not have good information on the odds,” said our Washington, DC corespondent Violet Patterson. “Some are thinking Bono said it to pay off a debt he had with Hamas fathers of recent debutantes in the Gazan Strip.”
“I am afraid, though, that war in Gaza is going to trump Barry Obama’s big day, BONO.” (fin) Pat. Pend.

so true! i mean once this stops Some people will move on i guess while those gaza will never move on , the fact one lost his daughters , one lost his wife, her husband, her brother, his sister, will mourn and be hurt for a very very long time if not forever.
but i guess i cant generalize, im sure ppl will always remember how sick, and evil israelis are , people’s eyes are much more open today than before.
hopefully israeli’s sick plans come to stop/end
Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009, 10:38 amGood post QuiQui. You’re absolutely right. We are supposed to be satisfied with the most superficial and fleeting recognition of Palestinian rights in the media. I watched the whole program on HBO and I thought nothing of his remark. Do the Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims count so little that such a cursory mention is lauded as a milestone? Do we have no political or financial clout in this country at all?
Posted by Sama Adnan | January 19, 2009, 11:15 amlook seriously… these posting in here and the comment by the writer is ridiculous. Take sides… that’s what’s wrong now-a-days. Partisanship whether in the US between democrats and republicans or elsewhere does nobody any good. What else was he suppose to do breakout into a lecture. He made people in the audience think even for just a second about the fact that freedom is the human dream… all people. I was there and I was glad he mentioned it especially with the new president standing feets away. Seriously, he probably did more mentioning it there, reaching more people and provoking more thoughts than your blog will ever do.
Posted by Helen | January 19, 2009, 1:05 pmyes Helen!
it was pretty bold. esp if you wait for obama’s shocked look, 10 sec later. it was a public acknowledgement of what obama ignored – murder of a caged people. the basic human right of freedom that so many died for in this country so that obama could have a chance at being prez, let alone be prez – the irony was thick. bono had a pseudo keffiyah on and i think bono and most irish see the similarities w/irish and palestinian struggle…
Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009, 7:08 pmExcuse me but if anyone is going to recognize that Palestinians exist, it’s not because Bono has said so. The world knows they exist, and will continue to know they exist because the Palestinians have shown this planet, on their own, with little or no help from anybody else, that they’re here and that they will never going away.
There’s something extremely wrong here if we can’t recognize the Palestinians are people unless Bono tells us they are.
And worse, if we – you and me – are to accept the nonsense that the Palestinians need a rockstar who doesn’t know anything about why they’ve been murdered for the past 61 years to spew out nonsense that places Palestinians in the same sentence as their killers. I’d rather my dreams and desires not be equated with the wishes of those who seek me gone, thank you very much.
