Dear Arabs, Just Chill Out

Palestine appreciates your gestures of solidarity. But cut it out.

You are in no position to help us out, your speeches and demonstrations from rebellious gulf to the roaring ocean have never accomplished anything, so stop pretending that you are, or trying to.

You probably care, thank you, but you got your own issues to deal with, and frankly, stop using Palestine (albeit on a rhetorical level only) as an escape from facing your own issues.

You got more skeletons in your closet than a Halloween haunted house.

Almost all of you live under brutal dictatorships that treat you like shit; no rights, no dignity, and no freedoms. We live under brutal occupation that murders us by the thousands and robs our lands, rights, and freedoms.

But we know it. We resist. And for that we are more alive than you are. Through it all, we kept our dignity.

If you really want to do us favors, or help us, do yourselves a favor first. Clean up your house; rise up against injustices in your country. If not for yourselves, do it for us to show us that you’re masters of your own words and destinies.

Before you start enlisting in delusional programs to fight Israel with a volunteer army that will end up handing your names to your secrete police, and before you call on your governments to “open the gate for Jihad,” think about what your government stands for, whose interest it has at heart, and how many reform efforts it neutralized by letting you take to the streets one Friday afternoon to vent your anger against the Zionist enemy, only to be at your food, tea, shisha, or qatt gatherings by 5 pm.

Or in the case of Saudi Arabia, consider a government that gets its cheaply bought religious leaders to issue Fatwas against demonstrating publicly, to which you quietly concur so that you get to your food and half naked music videos by 1 PM.

How about Iran, not Arabs, but often just as full of shit, you can hardly speak up against your government, but some 7000 of you managed to sign up for a suicide bomber duty on some volunteer list… Are you kidding me, did you think your Ayatollahs where going to provide the air bridge to Palestine? Next time there is a protest on one of your campuses, we’ll see which 7000 get arrested first.

So think about how much of Israel is in your own back yards. The embassies and representation offices, the participation in trade shows, the Israeli products, the gas line that pumps gas to the Zionist murderers at $1.50/1000BTU, when the production cost is $2.65/BTU, or even the border crossings that you demand be opened… they are in your country, have you considered marching to them and raising hell? Don’t think so…

True, we have our own share of corruption and dictatorship, at the first opportunity for people to choose, power-hungry, corrupt leaders turned against the choice of the people, and the people’s choice committed crimes and indulged in corruption when they had their chance, but it has not been easy for either of them, and we are under no illusions, we are not as presumptuous as to the point of going out in mass protests calling for the liberation of the people of Syria, Jordan, Egypt, or Saudi.

Please, clean your house up, and until then, don’t crowd their airwaves with your pointless drama, we got a case to make to the world.

  2. This goes for the U.S., too. For all you white people worried about genital mutilation in Africa — fuck off and change your country first.

  3. Amen, indeed.

  4. Clean up the Pal house? Some structures have to be burned down before beginning to rebuild. Get rid of your deep xenophobia and stop brainwashing your children to become hateful murderers and things may change.

  5. I love it. Foof, this is my favorite piece of yours.

It timely because this morning I received an e-mail from the Cairo Scholars listserv, reply to my Robert Fisk piece from two weeks ago “Rotten State of Egypt is too weak and corrupt to Act”.

One of Husni’s bias wrote back saying that it’s a lot better to “only show respect and obedience” to the Egyptian state regime. Indeed, docility has overcome:

“With all disadvantages of our Egyptian state regime, we (as Egyptians) can only show respect and obedience to them. We are not rebelious and do not need to ignite the flame of revolution in our country. We do not want to see Egypt another Gaza. We might disagree with goverment on some issues or even many, but these should only be communicated to them through valid and legislative channels and not through violence. We, Egyptians, stand united together and such articles only serve to the deterioration of the circumstances. We are in full support of Gaza but we have to exercise extreme rationalism.”

  6. “But we (Palestinians) know it. We resist. And for that we are more alive than you are. Through it all, we kept our dignity.”

Best line! Indeed, there’s an Israel in everyone’s back yard. These protests are only useful when your own government is hearing you.

    Right on.

  9. So the Hamas regime in Gaza, the same people who murdered hundreds and threw Fatah people out of high-rise buildings to their deaths, the same people who deny any offer for cease-fire, the same people who declare they will never stop the death cycle for any kind a two state solution, the same people who will sacrifice anything and anyone for their violent Jihad…

…They are a regime that has no responsibility whatsoever for the state of Gaza or their people? They could not have avoided this by acting sanely? Can’t you see they have at least some of the blame?

  10. “the same people who deny any offer for cease-fire”

“the same people who declare they will never stop the death cycle for any kind a two state solution”

Not true, stop peddling your lies anon 9:50, Hamas has stated multiple times that they are down for a two state solution based on the 67 borders. Hamas also stated that they will not recognize Israel unless Israel recognizes them.

    http://reut-institute.org/en/Publication.aspx?PublicationId=401

millions of quotes on that matter.

“the same people who will sacrifice anything and anyone for their violent Jihad…”

because this conflict is occurring solely because Palestinians enjoy killing Jews for fun….. grow up.

Rather it occurs because of the illegal occupation, illegal blockade, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and millions of other issues that you simply chose to block out from the equation.

  11. Sayyin,

This is a collection of unofficial and uncommitted Hamas quotes. For some real Hamas ideas, I urge you to simply read the Hamas’ own covenant of 1988, which was never changed or revised:

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp

    From its opening statement:

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it”

If you think it’s outdated, I also urge you to see and hear for yourself some of the Hamas words from the last couple of years:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF_dqGtome0

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHsSb854f0Q

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWIDZ7Jpdqg

The simple and sad truth is that only thing needed for a cease fire and peace talks between the Hamas and Israel is for Hamas to officially accept Israel’s right to exist (an existence in some form or way, without specifying exactly), and for the Hamas to officially declare their wish for peace based on a two state solution. This has yet to happen. In the meanwhile, they’re firing thousands of rockets into Israeli towns.

  12. Doesn’t this post apply to half the posters on this website?

    Suckahz.

  13. Good post.

And while we’re on the topic — more of the angry types in the states surrounding Israel should look at the *good qualities* of Israel, and push for those qualities to be integrated into their own societies.

    Along the lines of:

“If Israel, which we all hate, allows blasphemy, why the hell aren’t we allowed to have blasphemy here? If Israel, which we all hate, allows gay rights, why the hell don’t we have gay rights here? Are we really that far down the latter that *Israel* is beating us on the important civil rights issues?”

And that’s before you get to free elections and freedom of the press…
