I embassy what you did there….

The words “Venezuela” and “embassy” sure have been a fruitful producer of news stories lately. Try to keep up…

1) As has already been mentioned on Kabobfest, Venezuela has severed diplomatic ties with Israel. After the break-up there were rumors of a “friends with benefits” type situation, but this has been unsubstantiated as of yet.

2) As a result the Venezuelan embassy in Paris was “attacked“. Word choice seems a bit overly dramatic, but you get the picture:

Unidentified people hurled stones and metallic devices on Wednesday night at Venezuela’s embassy in Paris, smashed two windows into pieces and painted the slogan “Israel will win” on the façade, reported on Thursday a Venezuelan diplomatic source.

[Side note, pro-Israeli taggers could stand to be a bit more creative and what the hell is a 'metallic device'?]

3) Well now, at least according to one source, Chavez is reaching out to make amends with Israel. In fact, the whole thing was a c-c-c-crazy mix up (a la “Weekend at Bernie’s):

Cohen [Israeli Ambassador to Venezuela ] told the two [Venezuelan officials] that Israel was under the impression that Venezuela had severed diplomatic ties after expelling Israel’s diplomatic team from Caracas. The two Venezuelan officials told Cohen it was not their intention for Israel to close the embassy and if he got that impression, it was a mistake.

“Um, remember when I said ‘Get the hell out of my country, you imperialist-lackey!’? Yeah, well… I was speaking metaphorically!” How can kicking out an ambassador be done in such a way that it is vague?

4) Well if you can dish it, hope you can take it: Now Morocco is closing its embassy in Caracas in protest over Venezuela’s support for the Polisario:

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the decision followed “increasing hostility by the Venezuelan authorities regarding the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity and recent measures to support (Polisario)”.

Why do stern diplomatic communiques always sound like a passive-aggressive ex-girlfriend? “I mean, we are not mad at you, ya know? We are mad that you don’t respect our, like, integrity…”

Fortunately, Kabob Mediation Services™ has stepped up and figured out a solution to everyone’s benefit. Morocco, Israel and Morocco have all agreed that in the event of a future diplomatic row, participants will simply hurl metallic devices devices at the French.

  2. Oh, Al Maghreb Al Aqsa…First you say you love Israel, then you say you’re pulling your pseudo-ambassador, then you realize an opportunity to capitalize on the Sahara issue, then you decide not to go to Doha because you um, have another golf game? Same reason you missed the Mediterranean Summit?

Oh, Morocco, I just can’t keep up with your antics!
