Laila El Haddad’s father, Mussa, will be on North Carolina’s NPR station, WUNC in just a few moments. He is currently in Gaza. Please listen live (1pm EST) or get the archive from the show:
The Story with Dick Gordon
Moussa El-Haddad lives in Gaza with his wife. The bombs have fallen as close as 100 meters from his home. Two nights he was sitting at his desk and the reverberations from a nearby bomb knocked him right out of his chair. He tells Dick Gordon about what life is like for him now that his city is under siege, and about the hope that a new U.S. administration might mean new policies in this troubled region [LISTEN]

Qui Qui- I’m flattered, thank you!
Warning: Dick interviews an Israeli settler woman (who used to live in Gush Qatif and dreams of returning to live with “her neighbours”) and now lives in Sderot and complains there is no protection and no where to go. I’m crying inside. I’ve also emailed Dick about this gross comparison (he prefaces the interview by saying the stories are essentially the same..)

Many in the media try to equalize the Palestinian and Israeli experiences, as Dick did.
The funny thing is that given the influx of Israeli spin, they actually risk controversy by even daring to suggest Palestinians could suffer as much as Israelis.
The sad thing is the experiences sound similar when they are devoid of context, whether historical or just the bigger picture. For example the scope of the Gaza attack is one thousand times greater than the impact of the rockets. Many of these human interest-type stories whitewash that.
Thank your father for sharing his stories.
