A couple weeks ago I was handed a free sample package on the street: a lip balm. Cautious of free products, I checked over the package carefully…95% organic with a USDA stamp, paraben free, not tested on animals. All things I stand behind.
But being a conscientious consumer, I take a look at the web site anyway. Everything checks out: The company is headquartered in San Francisco, the products don’t contain phthalates, a percentage of the proceeds go to assisting underserved communities grow veggies. I think I’m in love!
At this point you’re probably wondering what this post has to do with anything…You know, I don’t know what tipped me off; a faint memory perhaps, but as soon as I got it in my head and did a quick Google search, my paranoia was confirmed: Yes To Carrots is an Israeli company.
A number of older news articles confirm my suspicion, including this one from Reuters:
Yes to Carrots was founded in Israel two years ago by Ido Leffler
and Lance Karish, and introduced its products in the U.S. in April
2007 through an exclusive national sales arrangement with Walgreen’s.
The company, soon to be headquartered in San Francisco, CA, formulated
and markets all-natural products containing Beta-carotene…
More alarming is this article from Globes Online (Israeli Business Arena) (subscription required, cached version here) which claims that the company’s original intent was to “raise the funding from Israeli institutional investors for reasons of Zionism.”
And yet, not one mention of Israel in their about section, no Israeli barcode to look for. It’s as if they’re trying to hide the fact. Just say no to carrots!

jillian,
thanks for posting that. i knew carrots were israeli when i was at the drug store, i saw it printed on the box. also, many of the vendors in the middle of the malls are israeli owned companies. you might want to do some reporting on that as well!
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009, 11:19 pmwhat's wrong with Israeli products again?
Posted by anonymous | August 11, 2009, 7:12 amThis is what passes for reporting these days?
Thanks for the heads up.. I guess?
Posted by Pale Ale | January 16, 2009, 8:19 amthanks for the heads up.I was wondering if whenever you find products like that to share them , same way as this article you did here.
Posted by Laura | January 16, 2009, 5:04 amAnonymous – yeah, it seems that Yes To Ltd. may be owned by the Dead Sea company (the one in the malls) but I can’t prove it.
Pale Ale – this is a blog, not a newspaper.
Laura – no prob. Will share anything else I come across.
Posted by Jillian | January 16, 2009, 9:29 amI am the original Pale Ale and I have not posted here in months, the others are fakes.
Posted by Pale Ale | January 16, 2009, 12:29 pmThere’s like a million of those Dead Sea kiosks and some sell things by different brand names than the others. The one by me is “Seacret.”
Posted by ally | January 16, 2009, 2:09 pmI think the kiosks keep changing their names. It’s just important not to buy from any of them!

The end of apartheid stands as one of the crowning accomplishments of the past century, but we would not have succeeded without the help of international pressure– in particular the divestment movement of the 1980s. Over the past six months, a similar movement has taken shape, this time aiming at an end to the Israeli occupation.
their followers, union members pressured their companies’ stockholders and consumers questioned their store owners. Students played an especially important role by compelling universities to change their portfolios. Eventually, institutions pulled the financial plug, and the South African government thought twice about its policies.”
I will like to add that is dead wrong about the boycott bringing down apartheid in South
Africa.
this is a misunderstanding of history, albeit a fairly common
one in
North America. It was the Cubans and their blood sweat and tears in Angola who
brought
down apartheid in South Africa, not Elton John refusing to play Sun City or
whatever the
hell it was at the tim
Posted by Por Palestina | January 16, 2009, 3:42 pmOn the mall kiosks. Not only are these Israeli products, but they are also being manned by ALL Israelis.

kiosks_20060908/
In all malls there is mall security.
Print up this article and take it to your local mall manager. Then call the INS. They have been busted several places but certainly not enough.
Also, NEVER call a 1-800-locksmith company. Just google Israeli locksmith scam and see what you come up with. Again, working here illegally. The legitimate locksmith companies are very eager to shut these scam artist NON locksmiths out. The apprenticeship to become a legitimate locksmith is NOT a week which is what these vultures get trained for.
They are working here ILLEGALLY. Just what we all need, straight out of the IOF Israelis running around breaking our own laws.
Posted by Robin | January 17, 2009, 3:32 pmi love it when the Israelis come up to me smiling in the mall and i firmly tell them, “i BOYCOTT all Israeli products.” the look on their face is priceless, especially since they think all Americans love them.
they always want to talk to me b/c “i look Israeli/ Jewish”
la teezy! i am a proud Palestinian who is not afraid to tell them what i think of them.
Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2009, 12:35 amile Christmas shopping I came upon a kiosk which purported to be selling an Italian line of products. Curious me, I stopped to inquire. It looked exactly like the Dead Sea Salts stuff but this one had an added ingredient that made it even more expensive, PURE GOLD. The girl put some hundred dollar face cream on my hand, Nope, not interested, too expensive. Then she said I needed “pampering”, put PURE GOLD Dead Sea salts like stuff on my hand and massaged it. Then I asked, “Are you Italian”, “No Israeli, why do you ask?”
BONG. I wiped my hand off and asked her if she had a green card.
Whoah! She went in to a RAGE, said, “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME, MY BOSS SAID THIS IS SO UNFAIR, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO WORK HERE BECAUSE ISRAEL IS AMERICA’S FRIEND!!”
Again, DO YOU HAVE A GREEN CARD?
She responded, “YOU READ THE MAGAZINE DIDN’T YOU?!!!”
No, I know you’re working here illegally because I have a dear friend who USED to live in Israel and her son and all his friends did this, (my friend is a pro-Palestinian activist-her son is a duel American citizen so he wasn’t working illegally)
MY BOSS SAID PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE UNFAIR!
Your BOSS is a CROOK and he’s breaking OUR LAWS.
Then, By God, she reached in the drawer and pulled out the magazine opened to that page! She was PISSED and raised her hand in the air to bop me with it!
I DUCKED and started walking QUICKLY away in my moccassins LOLOL as she chased me in her high heels, CLIP CLOP CLIP CLOP yelling “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!!!!!!!!”
Soooooooo, I went to mall security and reported all the kiosks. Then I called INS that Monday. It didn’t do any good, they’re still there but at least I tried, AND I got one ILLEGALLY working Israeli UPSET, and I’m sure the others as well, I mean she was NUTS.
That’s why I am saying, they are here ILLEGALLY and we need to do everything we can to stop it. Selling products from Israel isn’t illegal, luring Israelis straight out of the IOF over here to work WITHOUT green cards is.
Give em’ HELL.

Posted by Juan Newnam | June 15, 2010, 9:40 pmyou should know few more things…
the research center at Cedars Sinai Hospital is owned by Israeli guy, his name is Avi Saban so maybe if you have cancer you should not go there, also, the Childrens Hospital research center owned by the same guy (yes, Israeli) so don't take your kids there…
and one more thing – if you are taking any medication, it probably comes from TEVA – yes, the Israeli company so stop using it immediately.
Oh, if you're using any laptop and it has a processor from Intel, it was invented in Israel so stop using Intel.
Yes, the first cell phone from Motorola came from Israel.
and why but why not all Muslims are terrorist, but all terrorist are Muslims?
Posted by Liberman | October 18, 2010, 12:18 amFirst of all, this article isn’t even about Muslims, it’s about not using products that support Israel because of their inhumane treatment of Palestine; where Muslims and non Muslims live, smarty pants. Second of all your last sentence makes no sense. And third, thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure to avoid those too!

Posted by xyz | February 24, 2011, 3:04 pmThis comment is written by Uri Ben Hur, an Israeli, the creator of yes to brands and a zionist: hatred shows no progress in the spiritual development. Yes to carrots, yes to to tomatoes, yes to cucumbers etc are positive thinking natural brands that were developed by myself in 2005 to promote the philosophy of making natural products that helps people(all people) and develop the Negev desert as a source of life ,as suggested by the Hebrew prophets for the sake of all humans and all living creatures. Yes , we can bring peace to this planet and share equally all the divine natural richness. Say yes to peace, say yes to the desert, say yes to life, promote making this world a land of life for all. Let’s flower the world and make this planet a garden of life for all. Posted by w nike store survey | August 16, 2011, 6:06 amThanks for this heads up. Before I saw this post, I was in Walgreens and saw the product with all the other natural makeup like Burts. The company is trying very hard to hide that it is Israeli. There is no Israeli barcode. I read the ingredients carefully, and some vague assertion about having minerals from the "Dead Sea" immediately triggered to me that this was an Israeli product. Trust me, I was quick to put down the product.
To Liberman, Israelis are not creating anything. Israelis are Europeans and Americans, and as a colonial outpost and settlement, Israel is simply colonial factory. Just other settlements, like in South Africa or Hong Kong, etc., were. So don't act like Israelis are creating cell phones and laptops. Israelis wouldn't be creating anything without access to US and European aid, market, universities, and support.
Anyway, back to topic: Check most medicine before buying. I almost bought a topical that was listed as made in Israel. I told the pharmacist to not ring it up for me. Then I had the doctor prescribe me another topical, and I told him why I would not knowingly support a racist, apartheid colonial outpost. The doctor was stunned, but did prescribe something else.

Posted by Van Biasotti | September 4, 2011, 11:08 pmhello there, I am Hassan from Egypt and would like to open a Sea of Life store in Egypt. can anybody send the contact details of Sea ofLife? I believe that Israelis have the same rights to live like Arabs and cannot accept the stupid hatred against them, two years ago my son was operated in Wolfson hospital and Israeli doctors saved his life. all the expenses were donated by Israelis. it was a wonderful occasion to meet Israeli people and if i could , i would live there . we have to complaint only agains ourselves , as a Arab nation, with so many miserable leaders that shoot to kill whoever opposed them. after so many years of false conflict with Israel its time to replace our leaders to create a real reform in the Arab world. There is no problem of land, the Israeli have per capita 10 percent of the land that an Arab have. the problem is with our extremist that believe that there is onlu one way to live. but there are many ways to live as a good man. I hope inshalla to visit soon Israel.

Posted by mike | December 11, 2011, 2:55 pmAuthor You urgently need a doctor. Israeli product means the best !
Posted by Anna | December 12, 2011, 10:48 pmWell done! this has to be the most pathethic website in the history of the making. So friggen what if this product is made in Israel? The world is constantly boycotting us, and attacking us. Well, let me say this – Robin is an absolute Moron, who the hell do you think you are? The Green Card ranger? Why don't you live and let live – or turn your attention to other more pressing issues in your country. Any idea how many American criminals we have living in Israel? You're a pathetic excuse for a human being. As for Hassan Shadella – I am so happy our doctors saved your son's life. It thrills me to know this – even more so that there are people like you outside our boundaries – Bless you and you are welcome back to Israel anytime.
As for the product Yes to Carrots – it's amazing and more fool all you Morons for not buying it, just because its company roots back to Israel.
