Philip Rizk is home with his family. After four days of being locked up somewhere in Egypt, he is now free. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Why can’t it work this easily with others? I wonder if his German citizenship helped…

now that this child is a hero for doing nothing except being detained and transferred to Germans with velvet gloves, can we acknowledge how much pussy he is going to get from this episode, and that his quest for pussy may be the reason he was down there in the first place?
Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2009, 9:22 amSure, European and American passports are (deep) privileges. But why not offer something more evolved? That Mubarak’s Egypt is a disgusting goon state that hates dissent, and deals a crushing slap to its people. When there is outrage it tends to get a little embarrassed and back off. Doesn’t that reinforce the state’s paranoia about foreigners outside Egypt and how it is perceived by them? Doesn’t that reinforce ‘Third World’ thuggery of its own people while treating other dissenters with slightly thicker gloves? That’s exactly the sort of stuff Philip has been working against. I recognize that his privilege saved him–as does anyone’s with a privileged passport (and Philip was raised in Egypt). But I don’t see how one can stop there, as though blaming the victim for his supposed ‘light’ treatment. EVOLVE.
