Complete silence and complicity by Kabob for Hamas crimes. I overheard Will say, referring to the Gazans, "Resistance forever. And the people? Let them eat dirt".

I appreciate the effort in this comphrenehsive Arabic pop music review but I have to disagree almost entirely! For one thing, Nancy Ajram's latest album is extremely boring. You have to listen to a song a thousand times to tolerate it in the end. Tamer Hosny's album was amazing so there are the two biggest disagreements. I agree with Ragheb, Amr Diab, and Diana Haddad going down the drain but would like to include Nawal El Zoghby. I don't know how you judge these cd's but Nawal actually used to be AMAZING and just like Amr Diab, each following cd is worse than the other.
I also think you should have dedicated a FULL review for Mohammad Hama2i because HE IS AMAZING as well :)

I actually really liked a few of Samira Said's songs. Awam keda, Ayam 7ayati, 3ayounak 2oudammi. On Latifa's album, I found only Fil Kam youm elli fatou, sibny shwaya, and ana 3arfa enjoyable. Latifa's previous album was MUCH better. And is it just me or does Nawal El Zoghbi look more like a drag queen every day? Love her music, but her face is terrifying. She used to be so pretty!

This list is encouraging me to put together another one for the alternative Arabic music scene. There is so much happening there lately - Egypt alone has some great bands and an annual massive festival of original music that is not mainstream pop (check out Eftikasat, or Wust El Balad). Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and even Jordan have some really interesting experiments (Sign of Thyme, Lena Chamamyan, Ramallah Underground.. to name some examples). You should check out Eka3, which is a new production and distribution label for alternative music in the Arab world. They're very new, but hopefully in the coming couple of years we'll start seeing the fruits of their work.
