Obviously we're going to disagree on what makes a worthy Israel-based charity, but there is a point we might agree. Compare this kind of stuff to the issue over money going to Hamas. It's clear that Hamas do a lot of important work in the social sphere of Palestinian society. It's also clear that money to Hamas will also go towards rockets etc. Now, maybe you have no problem with that - legitimate resistance etc etc. But the point is that's the nature of money - it will always flow towards positive and negative stuff. But the people who get hurt most are those at the lowest rung, while the political gains are always questionable.

Fair point but like I said, some groups doing positive work were hurt. Other less benevolent grantees of Chais include (just skimming the first few): AHARAI Aharai identifies youth at risk from poor neighborhoods from age 14 through 25 and helps them pass the Bagrut. Aharai also prepares them for service in the army and provides counseling for military veterans. <a href="http://www.aharai.org.il/" target="_blank">http://www.aharai.org.il/ BIALIK-ROGOSIN SCHOOL The Bialik-Rogosin school is located in a poor neighborhood in south Tel-Aviv. Cff joined a coalition of Israeli philanthropists to create an educational system which includes extended school hours through the evening, and specialized classes and tutoring. Night courses are available for parents who wish to learn Hebrew. As a result of this effort, enrollment has increased dramatically as has the percentage of students passing their matriculation exams and entering the army. <a href="http://www.bialikschool.tlv.k12.il/" target="_blank">http://www.bialikschool.tlv.k12.il/ Many grantees support assimilation into the military, zionist indoctrination, getting Jews to return to Israel (objectionable in light of the ban on Palestinian refugees right of return) and so forth. <a href="http://ejewishphilanthropy.com/a-watershed-moment..." target="_blank">http://ejewishphilanthropy.com/a-watershed-moment...

Very clever. I work for Orr Shalom, an charity dealing with Israeli children-at-risk. 14% of the children in our foster program are Palestinian-Israelis. Chais was one of the foundations who gave us money. Bolstering an apartheid regime indeed. Next time I vist the foster-parents, perhaps I should tell them about your solidarity.
