Palestinian-American pugilist Omar Sheika will be challenging boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. on March 21.
As the alert reader who sent us an e-mail about this, wrote:
Omar is always representing Palestine when he enters the ring, either with a keffiyeh or wearing a free Palestine shirt for a showtime fight and getting a lot of crap for it.
One boxing journalist wrote, “When Omar Sheika came into the ring with a “free Palestine” shirt on, I didn’t like it, but I understood that it is a part of the parallel nature of society and politics and the sport of boxing.”
According to Wikipedia, “Sheika was an amateur standout and compiled a stellar career, capturing a National Amateur Middleweight Championship at National AAU Boxing Tournament in 1996.”
If Sheikha (27-8) beats Jones, he’ll be much more visible as a fighter, even if Jones is not exactly in his prime. In 2000, Sheika defeated Glen Johnson in a non-title bout. Johnson knocked out Jones in 2004. So, it could be interesting.

As the reader ended his message with, “SHEIKA SHEIKA SHEIKA!!!”
