My day started off in the worst possible way today. As I walked out to the main road to catch a taxi to work, I was met with poster upon poster upon poster of Abbasshole’s ugly face, staring at me from every lamppost, billboard and wall. They were everywhere, in the hundreds, pasted overnight in one of the weirdest acts of vandalism I’d ever experienced (vandalism carried out by the authorities?).
As the taxi made it short way down one of Ramallah’s main roads, Irsal Street, I was shocked to see the dictator’s smug mug pasted over the giant billboards too. I couldn’t quite understand it-no doubt the companies that had paid thousands for these advertising spaces would be livid, but the big companies here are pretty cushy with Abbasshole and his clique (after all, it is their millions that grease the rusted wheels of this fucked up Authority).
I don’t understand the purpose of this stunt. Kabobfest called up the dictator’s office who readily admitted this was all their idea. They didn’t give a reason why though; they just enjoy fucking around with us, apparently unaware that we despise their prick of a boss. Maybe he wanted to remind the Israeli army patrols just who is in charge.
Covering towns with the face of the ‘president’ has long been a forte of Arab dictators, and it wouldn’t be the first time Abbasshole has hired cheap thugs to spread his special brand of assholeness.
Seriously, as I went through the town during the day, the scale of the vandalism really hit me. There were literally tens of thousands of the posters, not hundreds as I thought at first, and I’ve taken a few sample shots here, including some pasted over business signs and even the light-posts on the façade at work. As soon as I finished making sure the inside of my home was Abbasshole-free, I put these up.

Posted by Sana | April 26, 2009, 11:03 pmThat's frightening. It's like the PA vomited all over the town!
Posted by SouthAsianReader | April 26, 2009, 11:38 pmFYI, Tarek Abbas, (Mahmood Abbas' son) owns a PR firm (Sky Advertising) which has been cashing up from the occupation. I wouldn't be surprised if the uglification of Ramallah was his job. Check this out: ” target=”_blank”>http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20090422/tpl-uk-pales…

Posted by Ziyaad | April 27, 2009, 3:07 amvery clever abbas stick it to your own people, lots of fckin swagger tough guy but when it comes to israeli leaders its hugs and kisses…he should just have made them into toliet paper rolls then theyd come into good use…what a waste of paper think green abbasshole, pun intended
Posted by abbass=peasent | April 27, 2009, 3:09 amWhen the Great leader starts putting up posters of himself, that's always a bad sign (no pun intended). When the Great Leader's son owns a PR firm given a million dollar contract from the Americans to convince the Palestinians of the many blessings the US has cheerfully rained down on them, that is an even worse sign. America has found its newest Saddam.
Posted by Sean2009 | April 27, 2009, 3:58 amIs he running for re-election? Is it true that his term had expired in January?
Posted by Anon | April 27, 2009, 4:03 amYeah anon, his term expired during the Gaza war. Thats why I refer to him as the dictator, because he is one.
Posted by MohammadKF | April 27, 2009, 5:44 amPretty much. Tearing up the constitution, steep family corruption, presenting himself as the only one able to feed the Palestinians in the West Bank on Western donations (what? You want to resist and end up like Gaza?) and now this.
Posted by MohammadKF | April 27, 2009, 6:32 amZiyaad I considered that it might be Sky at first, but these posters were put up too haphazardly, even on some billboards that are Sky's main source of revenue. Also, these were put up EVERYWHERE. Um Mazen is emailing pictures she took this morning from different parts of town, including on people's homes.
Posted by MohammadKF | April 27, 2009, 6:35 amHis smile makes me melt.
Posted by UmMazen | April 27, 2009, 7:39 amBut he's a "moderate" Arab leader.

Posted by xoggoth | April 27, 2009, 5:12 pmWhat is so bad about Abbas? Does he not toe the Islamist party line? Not enough anti-Israeli rhetoric?
Posted by eagle007blogger | April 28, 2009, 12:53 amYeah or he's a repressive dictator with no legal mandate to rule. I don't understand why you keep talking about things you have no knowledge of.
Posted by MohammadKF | April 28, 2009, 4:11 amAbbasshole? Really? How juvenile.. While I agree with the article as a whole ("the PA vomiting all over town". Priceless!) the amount of swearing in this post was simply disconcerting, and helped drown valuable arguments in puddles of profanity. A re-write would be strongly advised.
Posted by Mo-ha-med | April 28, 2009, 5:14 amoh really? b/c i think its genius. what else would do you call a dictator who serves as an arm for the israeli occupation?
Posted by falasteenyia | April 28, 2009, 5:33 amWhile I agree that it is utterly ridiculous for him to paste his mug all over town – calling him an asshole is a certain linguistic register, using a silly nickname, ingenuous as it may be, all-throughout the article is just bad writing. (and so is making up words such as 'assholeness'). As for Abbas serving as an arm for the occupation… you know, sometimes I wonder if he does: I think even they are done with him, he no longer serves any purpose but being a placeholder: with his amoeba-ish behaviour and his desperate clinging to the seat, he's surely better – for the Israelis – than anyone who would succeed him. Oh, how low we've stooped…
Posted by Mo-ha-med | April 28, 2009, 5:46 amLOL 1st off..I second your title…I back you up on that one.. very funny wallah 2nd- I really don't like that bastard either he has not done anything good for us but embarrass us.. and 3rd- if they wanted to put a pic of this ugly man up they should've put a more pleasant image, rather then that rat looking portrait…ewww if i had to wake up to that everyday i'd kill myself !
Posted by Um ALi | April 28, 2009, 8:00 amSeriously, this is how I start my day. Its my new excuse for my lack of productivity at work. He's not even good at being a despot. Usually they choose imposing images of themselves to cover the country with-here hes smiling like the bstard who sold out his friends to get out of trouble.

Posted by eagle007blogger | April 28, 2009, 7:13 pmAs usual, your lack of basic intelligence is breathtaking, and I will continue to call you out on it. Abu Mazen has no legal mandate to rule, whether he decides to unilaterally extend his own term or not. I don't know how you believe democracies work, but its not by those in office sidestepping the constitutional limits on their power. Btw Zubeidi has received a pardon from Israel, and has never been wanted. But you can continue quoting news from 5 years ago if you wish.
Posted by MohammadKF | April 28, 2009, 7:47 pmFor me this is worse than the Israeli occupation, to have some scum bags running our life to their own personal interest. Im realy surprised that Palestinians who have been resisiting occupation for the past 61 years cant get rid of Fatah and its corrupted leaders!
