Tear Gas Canisters Shot at Protestors at Close Range

The Israeli army seems to have adopted the practice of using tear gas canisters, which are meant to be shot into the air and fall a few hundred meters away, directly against non-violent demonstrators at close range.

Just a few weeks ago, Tristan Anderson was shot at close range in the head with a tear gas canister in Ni’lin. His skull was shattered by the canister, and part of his frontal lobe was removed.

Today, Basem Ibrahim Abu Rahmeh was killed in Bil’in when a tear gas canister was shot directly into his chest as he carried a Palestinian flag in the weekly demonstration against the Apartheid Wall.

The image shows tear gas containers collected from a Bil’in demonstration in 2007. The metal canisters are shot into the air and are meant to be used a long range, while the black containers are meant to be thrown by hand at close range.
