In America

Worse Than Bush

The World Conference on Racism (Durban II) commenced today in Geneva, with the US, Israel, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Italy, and Germany boycotting the event.

Having had either no history of racism or cleared their slate as far as racist or colonialist crimes and practices are concerned, the US and co. have the luxury of basing their decision to boycott solely on what Israel want this time around.

The aforementioned authorities on harmony and equality decided to boycott the world’s leading forum on racism because of fears it may be critical of racism, practiced by Israel that is. With more than five dozen laws that discriminate based on ethnicity, an extreme right-wing government that calls for ethnic cleansing, and a founding ideology based on the ethno-religious superiority of one people and the entitlement to other people’s land, any debate of potential racism in Israel seems to constitute a crime in the west.

And to complete the cover, Israel’s nut jobs, including Alan Dershowitz and Ellie Wissel, went to protest the Iranian president in the street, giving CNN and FOX the reel they needed to put on a loop so they completely mask the issue for the few Americans who may ask questions about it.

With George Bush, we had a clear villain; a murderous abuser of human rights and executor of imperialist policies that many of his actions cam under scrutiny, and even though he managed to get away with many crimes, they were not accepted as righteous by the wider population. So all Bush got to do about this conference that called for recognizing Zionism and racism, was to stay out it, the US and Israel only.

Obama, on the other hand, with his liberal movement mandate, gets away with more crimes than Bush, because the liberal who scrutinized Bush’s every action, are sleeping rotten when it comes to Obama, thinking that Change towards an equitable progressive society was achieved on election day.

Not only did Obama managed to change the draft text of the conference to omit mentions of the racism inherent to Zionism and the Israeli state, and followed that by having all the side activities critical of Israel pushed out side of the conference, but also he boycotted the conference, influencing a slew of western countries that, despite histories rich with racism and colonialism, had some qualms about associating with Bush.

So be careful, if Obama looks better than Bush, it means you just don’t know how he’s about to screw you. Careful Cuba and Venezuela. And if you’re looking for a black president to finally make America discuss its history of racism, wait a little longer.

  1. the US and co. have the luxury of basing their decision to boycott solely on what Israel want this time around. Actually, no. It is what any reasonable, advanced, nation wants. The Islamic nations wanted to use language that equates Zionism with racism. And they also wanted to restrict criticism of Islam, restricting free speech. Zionism is not racism (despite all the Arab propaganda to the contrary, not to mention the rantings of folks on this blog) and it is not racism to criticize Islam. And now… Walkout at Iran leader's speech Diplomats have walked out of a speech by the Iranian president at a UN anti-racism conference after he described Israel as a "racist government".

  9. I'm not a fan of Ahmadinijad, but there are very few world leaders who have the courage to stand alone in a foriegn land, and speak up what goes in the mind of every conscious and enlightened indevidual in the world. You can walk away from a speach, but the truth will always haunt you. And the truth is… ZIONISM = RACISM

  10. Yeees. But even the ghastly George Bush would never stand up in a public forum and defend attacks on children simply because they share a religion/race with the enemy. That sort of thing one only hears from the likes of Hamas and Dinner Jacket unfortunately.

  11. Zionism is racist, because it is an ethnic nationalism, i.e., one that equates full citizenship with a particular ethnicity. Hence the systematic discrimination to which Israeli Arabs are subject (coming soon, mandatory loyalty oaths, yay!). As Tony Judt has pointed out, Zionism in fact stems from the same racist ethnic nationalisms that proliferated in Europe from the end of the 19th to the mid 20th centuries (and beyond, though they became increasingly less acceptable in many European nations after WW II). Spin it anyway you want, Eagleblogger, but these are Zionism's discursive and intellectual roots, and they define many of the parameters of citizenship there. Israel is a deeply racist country. Sorry, the truth hurts. I'm disappointed in Obama, again, and I expect that's just inevitable when it comes to U.S. policy connected to Israel, as long as there is not a lobbying institution to counter AIPAC and give cover to politicians advancing more sensible and humane policies (not, obviously, to imply that things would be perfect in that case, only a little less outrageously fucked up).

  17. Because all of the enemies who have gone to war with Israel, tried to destroy Israel, tried to divert water from Israel, and engaged in terrorism against Israel happen to be Arab – that makes Israel racist? Does it make Americans racist that all of the 911 hijackers were Arab?

  19. A conference on racism where it's verboten to mention that Israel is a racist country and Zionism is a racist ideology. What a surprise. That the US and its disgraceful cadre of cowards, collaborators and scumbags walked out in righteous indignation is both predictable and laughably hypocritical, as the holier-than-thou brigade seems to have been recruited from those countries with some of the worst records for racism on the planet. I guess they understand how poor little Israel feels. The conference should drop all pretense of objectivity and just focus on how anti-Zionism equals anti-Semitism, and of course the requisite mention of persecution of homosexuals in Iran and how it necessitates an invasion of some sort, all while conveniently ignoring that a certain ex US prez tried to get a constitutional amendment against gay marriage passed in the US. I'm no fan of Ahmadinejad, but the more pro-Zionist lapdogs froth at the mouth whenever this guy dares utter the truth, the more he comes off looking like Solon in comparison.

  20. I agree about how the boycotting and walking out are a shameful coddling of Israel and its racist policies, but do you honestly believe that Obama is worse than Bush? Are you inferring that he's got a lot more hidden agendas? Would you rather have Bush back?

  21. Thank you Fayyad. In our view Obama is worse than Bush. He is continuing the same capitalist/imperialist policies as George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, GHW Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy … all the way back to Washington. But we have to admit, this making and selling of a president is the best show they have put on yet. He's intelligent, an excellent orator… and he's black. You want change? We'll give you change – even down to the color of his skin. It's an old Bad Cop-Good Cop routine: Bad cop comes into the interrogation room and beats the hell out of the "suspect"; he leaves the room and Good Cop comes in and gives the suspect a cup of coffee and a cigarette. You thought "Slick Willy" was slick? Hell, he was grist compared to "Slick Obama". The so-called "liberals" in the US and Europe bought the product in a fire sale. The Obama-drama was (and still is) carried on with the capitalist media-driven euphoria. (continued)

  22. Even many Leftist and anti-war organisations and websites helped build the Great False Hope. However, many are now beginning to see that they've been screwed. At Axis of Logic, we saw it coming and boycotted the 2008 elections and took a lot of heat for our position from our brothers and sisters who were caught up in this charade. Our view now is not an "I told you so" – not at all. Our view now is "learn from it" and stop supporting this charlatan in a black skin. Some are still holding out hope … "give him a chance", they say. We say NO! He's one of them. He is the enemy. Fight him, his regime and his policies with the same fervor that you fought the more brutish, George Walker Bush. We published a reprint of this article on Axis of Logic (” target=”_blank”>http://www.axisoflogic.com) and we thank Fayyad for his insight and his concisive analysis and article. – Les Blough, Editor, Axis of Logic

  26. I can't speak for Fayyad, but I think the answer to your first question is yes. Obama is worse than Bush because he is smarter and more knowledgeable – more is expected from him. Unfortunately, he is all talk and there is no real change forthcoming when it comes to any major foreign policy issues. What makes it all so sad, is that Barack knows better and he probably believes that the state of Israel needs to be put in its place. Unfortunately, he is too much of a coward to stand up and do what is right. I know there are political realities that need to be taken into consideration, but that is no excuse. He promised change, and if there is one thing that needs to change in US foreign policy it is the shameless brown-nosing with Zionist sympathizers. Maybe we cannot expect the guy to do a complete 180, but there is no excuse for him going even further than his predecessors to push Israel's agenda.

  30. The red herring you produced is childish. The diplomats (of the most advanced nations) do not agree that Zionism is racist, and they do not agree with the racist rantings of the Iranian president – who believes that a great catastrophe will precede the return of a prophet who will bring Islamic justice to the entire world – all this while developing nukes and making declarations that Israel should be wiped off the map, will be destroyed in one big fire like a dried tree, ect. The madman in Iran also sends money and support to groups that carry out attacks and kill Israelis. And you are busy saying that to disagree with the diplomats implies inferiority and insignificance, in a lame attempt to make agreeing with the diplomats seem racist —- as they walk out on the rantings of a real life racist Jew-hater.

    Posted by eagle007blogger | April 27, 2009, 11:39 pm
  31. Funny how you throw in the word "verboten" in an obvious throw-back to Nazi times. But would you object to diplomats walking out on a speech given by Hitler accusing Jews? If you think that the diplomats walking out represent countries with the "worst records for racism on the planet," you really should read more. And follow current events, real racism is going on today (in other places besides Iran, Darfur for example) By the way, defining marriage in the traditional way is not the same thing as executing homosexuals.

  32. He actually does have a lot more hidden agendas. He will be trying to implement some pretty radical lefttist policies. Bush was pretty upfront about the fact that he would attack terrorists and their supporters, and he would take measures to prevent another attack in the US.

  34. You do realize that everyone was offered a chance to give a speech at this conference right? Ahmedinjad accepted the offer, these diplomats from the "advanced nations" as you call them did not. Furthermore, no where in the draft proposal of Durban 1 or Durban 2 are there any anti-semetic, anti-zionist, or anti-Israel statements anywhere. You right wing nutjobs seem to think that Ahmedinjad was the official monitor of the event, when he only attended Durban 2 for a day. The fact remains that the intention of the conference was to address racism. Any and all racism was up for criticism. The fact that the "advanced nations" (once again using your terminology) walked out instead of presenting their own cases or counter-arguments is baffling, and only shows that they are unwilling to listen to any criticism of Israel. This is despite the fact that Israel is a racist apartheid state that many prominent south Africans have said puts the Palestinians through a situation far worse than anything they had to experience. As for the eschatology you just brought up, it sounds almost exactly like the crap right wing Christian evangelicals (who are some of the biggest Israel supporters in the United States and include our former President George Bush) believe in and base their foreign policy on. They even sell the video games based on this eschatological garbage at major computer stores. ” target=”_blank”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Behind As for Iran being a serious threat.. cmon seriously? Who would you be more afraid of? The guy with thousands of nukes currently occupying multiple countries with a history of nuking people, or the guy that has no nukes and does not occupy any countries nor have they invaded another country in 300 years. In any case Ahmedinjad is running for re-election in Iran, worst case scenario you will have to hear him ramble for another 3-4 years. Don't lose sleep over it. 38. Even "many" Leftist and anti-war organisations and websites helped build Barack Obama? They were his main supporters! From all the major network news organizations to print media, the liberal-controlled press fawned over Obama – giving him a free pass on all the character issues and other issues, while dutifully informing the world that someone bought Sarah Palin some clothes, her daughter was pregnant, even rumors about who fathered the child! This is what journalism has come to? Thankfully there are still some non-liberal controlled media outlets in the U.S. The number 1 cable news provider in America is Fox News. The others have lost credibility and objectiveness. Fox News Channel Leads in 2007 Cable News Ratings 1/4/2008 Fox News Channel once again ended the year as cable’s top news network All Votes Are In: Cable News Claims Huge Victory in 2008 12/31/2008 But Fox News remained the undisputed news champ. Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes’s network celebrated its seventh consecutive year as the cable-news rating leader in primetime and total day among viewers and the key 25-to-54 demographic. And 2008 was Fox News’s highest-rated year ever in both total day and primetime. Fox News officials said its executives were not available for comment. The dominant all-news network saw its primetime average grow 41% from 2007 to 2.059 million viewers last year, almost as many as CNN and MSNBC combined. In terms of household primetime ratings in 2008, Fox News ranked No. 4 among all cable networks with a 1.7 average, up 31% from 2007, according to Disney ABC Television Group analysis of Nielsen data. Fox Still Leads Prime Time March 31, 2009 Fox News Channel, the longtime No. 1 cable news operation and a unit of the News Corporation, has extended its lead over CNN and MSNBC in recent months. Fox still king of cable TV news March 31, 2009 FOX News Channel Dwarfs Cable News Competition in Remarkable First Quarter Ratings Surge March 31, 2009 FOX News Channel (FNC) expanded its ratings dominance among its cable news competition in all categories during the first quarter (Q1) of 2009, beating CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership according to Nielsen Media Research. Fox not too shy to report it's still No. 1 in cable news April 1, 2009 Fox News Claims 9 Of Top 10 Cable News Programs In Q1 04.01.2009 In a sign of just how dominant Fox News is in the cable news network ratings game, the network easily won the rankings in the first quarter of 2009 Fox News Has Its Eyes On Being #1 in All of Cable Monday, Apr 27, 2009 Not satisfied with being, by far, the #1 cable news channel, Mediaweek's Anthony Crupi writes about Fox News Channel's ambition to be the #1 cable channel on the dial. It is just sad that the major networks are liberal-controlled, the average person comes home after a day of work or school and flips on the TV to watch news, and if they watch network news they get a dose of left-wing spin.

From all the major network news organizations to print media, the liberal-controlled press fawned over Obama – giving him a free pass on all the character issues and other issues, while dutifully informing the world that someone bought Sarah Palin some clothes, her daughter was pregnant, even rumors about who fathered the child! 43. Our problem has to do with defining our terms. The people you are calling "liberal" are the same people I call "right wing". Obviously, we live in 2 different worlds and probably, the twain shall never meet. But thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  44. Funny how you throw in the word "verboten" in an obvious throw-back to Nazi times. That's because Israel is an obvious throw-back to Nazi times. But would you object to diplomats walking out on a speech given by Hitler accusing Jews? Sure, if everything Hitler said was a lie. But Ahmadinejad is not Hitler nor was anything he said a lie. He is certainly not my first choice for purveyor of the truths about Israel, but that doesn't make him a liar, just a hypocrite. If you think that the diplomats walking out represent countries with the "worst records for racism on the planet," you really should read more. And follow current events, real racism is going on today (in other places besides Iran, Darfur for example) If you think the Darfur conflict is a racial one, you need to read something but Zionist sources who try to portray it as such to justify US and Israeli aggression aimed at stealing Sudan's resources and turning into a client state like Iraq or failed state on the model of Somalia. If you don't recognize that the US, for one, had racist laws on its books right up until the 1960's, practiced slavery against Blacks, and massacred and ethnically cleansed the Indians, you need to read more. If you don't recognize that the British Empire was one of the most racist regimes in history, that openly sought to impose its culture on the world and "Make the World British" and which used ethnic cleansing, genocide and racist divide-and-rule tactics to destroy its victims, you are poorly informed indeed. But in the modern world, one of the few countries with institutionalized racism enshrined in its very laws and religious institutions is Israel. Israel has laws which specifically discriminate against Arabs and favor Jews, such as laws regarding land ownership, marriage and citizenship itself, and its leaders have publicly and openly committed themselves to the maintenance of an artificial Jewish majority in the country that can only be achieved through ethnic cleansing, just as was the case in 1948. This is what Israel as a "Jewish State" means: not a homeland for the Jews where they are the equals of Palestinians, but a racist supremacist state where the Jews will always be the majority through whatever means necessary and thus always the masters. Leading Jewish rabbis are on record calling for the extermination and ethnic cleansing fo the Palestinians, and members of Israel's government have openly advocated the policy known as "transfer," which is the Israeli euphemism for ethnic cleansing. If none of this strikes you as racist, you are hopelessly media-conditioned and incapable of independent, rational thought. Jews are taught that they are God's "Chosen People," morally superior to others, and destined to rule the world and usher in a period of Jewish enlightenment. Orthodox Jews believe that Christianity is an abomination under the Noahide Laws, believe all the citizens of the planet should be subjected to these laws, and prescribe beheading as the punishment for anyone who disobeys these laws. Orthodox rabbis, in contrast to all standards of civilized behavior and international law, preach that there is no distinction between civilians and combatants in warfare, and indeed, that it is contrary to Jewish law to make such a distinction, thus putting the guilty and the non-guilty into the same category marked for destruction. This is an obscenely racist ideology in that it reduces individuals to one giant group for elimination, much like the Nazis did. By the way, defining marriage in the traditional way is not the same thing as executing homosexuals. No it isn't, but is it is bigoted and discriminatory, and the encouragement by the government and religious institutions of bigotry and discrimination against homosexuals can and has resulted in intolerance, injury and murder directed against them. Certainly, the US state religion of imperialist capitalism has resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of people since WWII, and the support and creation of brutal, fascist dictatorships throughout the planet. I'll take Iran's admittedly dismal human rights record over the appalling record of the US or Britain any day.
