I loved Hanitizer’s list of 23 fun things to do in Syria so much that I had to add a new favorite. I’ve been working on a post on my recent trip to Syria for awhile, but in the meantime I’ll share with you one of the most enjoyable activities in which I partook in Damascus…photographing the city’s awesome graffiti.
Now, I’m sure you might argue that graffiti isn’t awesome, but I totally disagree…I love it all. And done right, it’s an art form.
Oh, and the art’s not bad either:

Posted by Hantizer | May 26, 2009, 9:25 pmYeah, pretty much
I've had this post in the system for days that I can't finish, so I figured I'd throw this out there in the meantime!
Posted by JillianKF | May 26, 2009, 10:08 pmI'm not Arabic, so I didn't understand the second and third one but LOL I can't believe someone graffiti'd the word 'cow'! And with so much dedication!
Posted by Aisha | May 27, 2009, 2:02 amDamn, the fourth picture feels like an acid trip….
Posted by Fayyad | May 27, 2009, 4:03 amI love the cow graffiti, and even more than I love the graffiti, I love that someone wrote "moooo" under it!!! I'm still laughing. And the juxtaposition of the second one: "death to israel" followed by "i love you"!! You know, I was going to write a post saying there was no decent graffiti in Damascus, compared to the creativity of Beirut's graffiti. I think you've just proved me wrong. Maybe I need to keep my eyes open a bit more.
Posted by Sasa | May 27, 2009, 9:36 amIt's my fault, I was trying to emulate a lensbaby.
Posted by JillianKF | May 27, 2009, 2:34 pmHeh, glad I could provide you with such a service, Sasa
Posted by JillianKF | May 27, 2009, 2:34 pmSorry, I should have translated them. Number 2 says "death to Israel" followed by "I love you" and the brightly colored one says, to the best of my knowledge, "exponential." Not sure how that makes sense, but there you have it.
Posted by JillianKF | May 27, 2009, 6:47 pmEven better is that they wrote "MOWW!!!" not "mooo."
Posted by JillianKF | May 27, 2009, 6:48 pmNice! I haven't seen that many nice ones, although where I live in Yarmouk Camp there are some pretty nice ones, but mostly with religious messages. I also need to keep my eyes more open.
