Israel imposing low-hummus diet on Palestinian laborers

Obesity is an increasingly WIDEspread phenomenon in the Western world, but Israel, fulfilling its promise as a light unto nations, is making sure Palestinians remain healthy enough to imprison for a long time by imposing a strict diet on them.

At the Sha’ar Efraim checkpoint in Tulkarem, the private Israeli security firm that runs the checkpoint (privatizing the occupation) imposes strict limits on the food Palestinians can carry with them when crossing through. The company’s policy bans the following items:

  • Large bottles of frozen water and large bottles of soft drinks (they could green_olives_trikala_peppers_498be used in mentos rockets),
  • home-cooked food (the hell?),
  • coffee and tea (payback for any Starbucks boycotting)
  • zaatar. That shit is indistinguishable from marijuana after all.

The security company also dictates the quantity of items allowed:

  • Five pitas,
  • one container of hummus and canned tuna,
  • one small bottle or can of beverage,
  • one or two slices of cheese,
  • a few spoonfuls of sugar,
  • and 5 to 10 olives. The exact amount depends on the mood of the Israeli guard, but its important that the Palestinian not try to cross with less than 5 olives.
  • Workers are also not allowed to carry cooking utensils and work tools. This is just cultural sensitivity, because Arabs like to eat with their hands.

Of course, there is an excellent reason for such exclusively Israeli assholishness. According to the company, these insane restrictions are imposed due to ‘security and health risks’. Now who on earth saw that coming?

Honestly though, such policies might be good for Palestinians in the long run. Now those in the West Bank can understand some of what their brethren in Gaza have been going through with the Israeli-imposed limits on their food intake. Perhaps such empathy will make national conciliation easier. In the meantime, its definitely making it easier to prove how much of a prick Israel is.

  1. Is this part of the reward for the "good behavior" the West Bankers have been showing Israel?

  2. Jews complain that Arabs are trying to kill them. Arabs complain Jews aren't letting them through the border with enough olives to get fat, and call that "occupation".

Well, the Saudis don't pump enough oil to let me buy gas cheap. Does that mean my country is occupied?

  3. Solomon. you really messed that up.
what are you saying? are you saying arabs shouldnt carry food? enough food that will keep them up on their feet for the 16 hours their working each day, and the fact that there stuck at check points for hours and hours. is that okay? is that normal?
Stricting food now? whats next? you know what they might as well ask them not to eat or drink and starve to death.

  4. To add to this… Palestinians have used for hundreds of years certain spices in their za'atar which they gather wild from the countryside.

NOW – because of over exploitation in Israel, unsound farming practices, as well as other environmental issues – these spices are now endangered ( wild sumac I think?). Thus, the za'atar ban (according to Israel) is based upon that.

The fact is, Israeli over development has been the primary source of this.

  5. solomon didnt make sense at all, saudis not pumping enough gas and him being under occupation because of that can no way be linked to this topic as an exmaple or anything else, sarcastic or not.

solomon, here it is in simple terms: the palestinians are under occupation. thats why theyre occupied, not because they cant carry food. the food limitation thing on the checkpoint is wat the occupier is imposing.
