Sarah Palin Opts for Pulling Out

And this time it has little to with her birth control policies.

Apparently Sarah Palin wasn’t too happy with the news of the death of Michael Jackson overtaking her and David Letterman’s very awkward,  and very PR-motivated spat. She announced on Friday at a no-questions-please press conference, located at a beautiful Wasila lake, that she would not only not be seeking re-election for her position as Governor of Alaska but that with a mere 18 months left in her term, she was resigning and handing the remnants of her run over to the Lieutenant General Sean Parnell. The reasons given by Palin were nothing short of the usual resignation points: family, for the betterment of the state, doing ‘good’ outside the system and not wanting to be a sitting lame-duck state official. Palin additionally stated that since AP Stevens IndictmentAugust 2009- when she was chosen to be McCain’s running mate-many darn tootin’ evil-doers of the political persuasion have come to discredit her and bring her down using the very same ethics laws she helped form and to no avail.  The legal fees have started adding up and Palin said she needs to think about the financial well-being of her family.

While all of that is fine and dandy, it begs the question: really?

Since McCain’s defeat, Palin has been one of three front-runners for the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee, following Huckabee and leading Romney. She also has a book deal coming out, and as one loud-mouthed CNN political commentator mentioned: during his time in office, Senator Obama was just campaigning for President Obama, thus it is very possible that Palin is getting ready to get her book out as soon as possible and begin  campaigning around the country. This is possible as Palin has been polluting the news channels with her unimportant and pathetic attempts to remain relevant. Also very likely as 2012 is the same year that the Mayan calendar ends,  leading to the alleged end of the world as we know it. I’m slowly becoming a believer.

Whatever the soon-to-be former Governor Palin’s real reasons and intentions are, she must be pissed off at Steve McNair.

  1. I think you meant Lieutenant Governor, not Lieutenant General. Alaska isn't a military dictatorship…yet :)

  4. This link has a feminist perspective on Palin I think Jillian and Sana could be interested in.

(Sana, if you were blogging at 2am, then the word play in the title is even more extraordinarily funny)

    • I was hoping for something better written than that. I agree on some points with her, but overall I think her observations and points are weak.
The primary question isn't about whether Palin is a feminist or not but rather how she was treated by both the people who selected her and what that says about patriarchy within our society and how Sarah Palin fits in. As a former self-identifying Feminist, I find Feminism to be far too dogmatic and essentialist – which is exactly what that post wreaks of as well as the comments she replies to. The Palin/Clinton competition is the perfect indication of how an intelligent and capable woman politician still has little chance over someone who, quite honestly and contrary to that post, has the knowledge of the average American. That's striking and that's extremely telling. I have no doubt Palin is a wonderful person – that she's a good person to talk to, a good mother, a good wife, a good person in the community, but that post is giving her far more credit for somehow pushing the women's lib movement further than she actually deserves.
If we're talking about the advancement of women in our society, then the election of Palin as vice president would have been completely contrary to that. She'd be more aloof than Joe Biden – and as a woman, she'd be carrying a strong burden on her shoulders; her every move and word would be seen as somehow indicative of what a woman is like in the second highest political office. And the opportunity for her to become President, given McCain's age and health? Yikes. Palin made more FP slip ups than you're allowed – that concerns me far more than her views on evolution and abortion.

And yes, I have insomniac hours.

      • Sana –

Consider how Palin was treated by the mainstream American media. The mainstream media is biased – they were reporting about clothes and her daughter's pregnancy while Obama a free pass on all his questionable associations and his lack of any real record.

Sarah Palin is the ultimate feminist – she is raising a family in a successful marriage, she is strong, and she has a career as a professional woman! She makes the left very nervous, in fact they are afraid of her.

Haven't you noticed how she has been under attack in the media? And her every move HAS been watched and criticized. But she's too strong for them. She has a bright future.

Sana how do you feel about evolution? Do you think that everything evolved, or was created with an intelligent design? If you favor intelligent design then you have something in common with Palin

How do you feel about abortion? If you feel that babies should not be killed and disposed of as a matter of convenience, then you have something in common with Palin.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to all of the slip-ups that Joe Biden has been making, from the campaign, to the debates, to now (Of course you won't here much about it in the liberal media).

        • I don't like Sarah Palin for those same reasons (I do believe in abortion for any reason, I believe entirely in evolution – not ID – and I think children should be taught sexual health in its entirety, not simply abstinence).

That said, I think she is a feminist too. She is doing things her way, and standing up for what she believes in. I honestly don't think she's that intelligent (the woman had never left the U.S., so regardless of her book smarts, she has no global experience whatsoever, which I think we can all agree is vital for such a position) and I don't think she has a bright future, but I'm not going to rail against her for being the kind of woman that she wants to be.

  7. The fight is between an out of control government led by media and government elites and common sense Americans, of both parties, who have had enough. Sarah Palin is in the enviable, although personally painful position, of being the "anti elite" voice of common sense and shared American values.

    Posted by big-e | July 10, 2009, 7:40 pm
    • Not exactly, though there is some truth in what you say. Half of America lives her because she's seen as 'one of them' but the other half dislikes her because the prospect of her becoming President is scary.

She's not dumb like many people have claimed, but neither does she have the skills needed to become president and leader of the free world etc. etc. You obviously have a bias against the 'elites' as you call them, but look what happened when you elected a president you'd like to have a beer with, instead of a president who's suited to the job

  8. Sarah did the right thing, she is not qualified to run the country let alone the state of alaska, although her values are shared by many, she may soon be the new face to voice the views and opinions of many, she is clearly not a politician, nor a very good leader, she is just a good ole girl with lots of fans…sort of like Hannah Montana.

  9. I admire Sarah Palin because she had also done a lot in the area of Politics specially in Alaska where she was a governor.

  10. The fact is that Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama – who is now ruining the American economy by raising taxes and increasing spending during a recession,

    Yes, of course

who is trying to initiate a massive government takeover of healthcare that is unsustainable and will result in massive debt and rationing of care,

I hate when Americans say this – you spend twice as much on healthcare (per person) than the next highest spending country France and still have the shittiest healthcare in the developed world -much worse than even my own country, Britain. Obama hasn't done what you accuse him of, he's simply extending coverage to the uninsured. He's NOT adopting a single-payer system like the rest of the developed world, just to appease people like you.

and who wants to raise energy bills for all Americans with his cap-and-tax plan.

If you want to destroy a planet, please move onto another one. I quite like this one and want it to be able to support my kids and my grandkids.

  12. Obama is a disaster, perhaps the worst President America has ever had, and you are wondering if a solid and sensible person with the values that Sarah Palin has would be a good President???

The honour of worst president goes to Obama's predecessor. Your last statement is simply scary.

Obama's approval numbers are beginning to tank now, and they will continue to tank as unemployment goes up and the economy starts to show the results of his disastrous radical lefti-wing policies.

Conservatives have been saying that for the past three months. Obama's hardly radical left-wing either, if you want that, come here to Western Europe – we love Socialism

And Sarah Palin has been a victim of a smear campaign, but there's not much there to be afraid of
