Jewish Glass Joe Loses Fast

salitaglassjoe

You know, Glass Joe? If not, you need to brush up on your classic Nintendo games.

If you don’t see the resemblance, you should after he got crushed by Amir Khan.

I only refer to Salita’s religious background because this fight was being talked about as the Muslim vs. the Jew in some circles. Yawn. It’s more about money than anything else. And that is one thing Muslims and Jews definitely have in common. They love the money (well, so does everyone else I guess).

Glass_Joe_TKOedIt’s really not been a big issue between the fighters, but it has come up.

His cornerman was hyping him up in racial terms: Salita “looks Russian, prays Jewish and fights black,” according to Jimmy O’Pharrow. Most bothersome to me, Salita wore the Maccabi Haifa Israeli basketball team logo in his world championship bout.

I know Khan likely cares less, but I can’t get over Israel conquest and colonization of Haifa. I was not rooting for Khan, but I am glad Salita didn’t win, because he’d become a spokesman for Israel to improve its public image, for sure.

  1. Maybe the fact that he lost and that he feels as vulnerable as the State of Israel itself. They might actually demand more military aid.

  2. From what I know of Amir Khan (and a video I saw of an interview before the fight) he was very keen on keeping the match "boxer vs. boxer" not Muslim vs. Jew.

But someone told me that some pro-Israel people were claiming it to be a religious showdown. =/

  4. Disclaimer: I'm not Arab (Asian actually). HBO's boxing site has fighter documentaries and Salita's was one that I wached. In my perspective, he came across as a nice guy who just is very devout. No less than some fighters making the sign of the cross before fighting and such. No mention of religion was made an issue by either fighter and the religious angle was only played up by peripheral observers, sad to say. If he is to be faulted for his spirtuality then we must take a look at Prince Naseem Hamed's religious boastfulness.

p.s. Omar Sheika in his prime is still my fav. Arab fighter. But Khan, now with Freddie Roach is a baad boy.

  5. I'm not Jewish, but I find the title of this article slightly offensive because of its tone. "Muslim Glass Joe," would not be taken well either I assume?

    Thanks.
