Ray Hanania Strikes Again! (And Fails Again!)

Washed-up journalist Ray Hanania has struck again with a post in Palestine Note – claiming that KABOBfest’s criticism of his nomination to the national board of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is due to “anti-Christian” sentiment.

The absurd claim comes weeks after Ray Hanania failed to intimidate bloggers critical of his racist comments and pro-Israel politics into silence with the threat of legal action. (His complete disregard for the First Amendment actually makes him a viable candidate for President of Palestine)

Given his Zionist tendencies, it’s not surprising that Ray Hanania has resorted to such tactics. Pro-Israel hawks are notorious for using the threat of costly legal proceedings and tarnished reputations to say and do whatever they please.

Most, however, are smart enough to not make embarrassing oversights about members of a board they’re a part of. You see, Ray Hanania isn’t the only Christian ADC Board Member.

In fact, half (if not most) of ADC’s current Board of Directors are Christian – including ADC Chairman Safa Rifka. Hell, ADC was founded by a Christian (James Abourezk) and its previous president, Mary Rose Oakar, was one too. Considering that the vast majority of Arab-Americans are Christian, I think it’s safe to assume that a large chunk of ADC’s membership are as well.

(For Christ’s sake, Ray, how did you not realize that Board Secretary Sawssan Khoury is a Christian? HER LAST NAME MEANS PRIEST!)

According to Ray Hanania, KABOBfest opposes his nomination to ADC’s Board of Directors because he’s a Christian. But that’s clearly not the case, because KABOBfest doesn’t oppose ADC. (In fact, some of our posters are even active members of the organization)

The true reason why we oppose Ray Hanania’s nomination is because he is a self-hating bigot whose views about the Arab-American community and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict run contrary to ADC’s mission and popular consensus among the Arab-American community. Plus his comedy routine really sucks.

Still, what’s more disturbing about Ray Hanania’s Palestine Note rant is his assertion that (1) “Christians face as much turmoil equally oppressed with Muslims under Israel’s brutal occupation as they do in Muslim and Arab countries,” and (2) “Christian Arabs are Muslims by culture.” Evidence that Ray Hanania knows very little about Arab Christians, a sizable portion of the community he supposedly represents as an ADC Board Member.

In any case, I’m curious why Ray Hanania assumes that all his critics are Muslim… we’re not.

  1. What a freaking liar this guy is! The idea that opposition to his membership of the national board of the ADC is because of his religion is so ridiculous, it would be funny if it wasn't true. I mean, seriously, the ADC — the organization founded by a Christian and who's had Christians involved in its operations since the beginning — is now going to face protest because they appointed Christian Ray? Give me an effing break!

The most odious thing about this guy is his employment by the ultra-racist, anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian, anti-Muslim Jerusalem Post. You can't claim any high ground when you're *that* low.

  2. He really is the most annoying and embarrassing Palestinian. I really can't relate to Arabs who will sell themselves to the devil for "fame." Please make new friends Ray, try AIPAC, we don't need you in this community. KTHANXBAI.

  3. Note: This isn't the first time that Ray Hanania has tried to smear critics with the accusation of being "anti-Christian." This is actually quite routine for him. The second someone says something critical of him — he whips out the "anti-Christian" card. Clearly, he's a Zionist through and through… just not as savvy.

  5. It's interesting the issue of Christian and Muslim comes up in this discussion. For anybody who's interested, this is what I view about myself:

    1. Politically Muslim
    2. Religious Christian

It's complex, but as I sip my coffee while the sun shines during Ramadan, it's clear that I'm not practicing Islam as a faith. Christmas is my favorite season, so I guess in a way that makes me a Christian.

Muslims will get mad for bringing up the political aspects of Islam and Christians will get mad for equating Christmas with Christianity. That's the way I feel about it, though, and Ray Hanania might want to explore the a little deeper the feelings of Arab Americans. There's an undercurrent that can even be categorized as a movement at this point that he's completely missing.

  6. Programmer Buydatti, what are you so upset about?

Actually, ADC and Ray Hanania are PERFECT for each other:

Congratulations to ADC and Hanania for embracing each other. We wish them a warm spot in the special attic made for House Arabs.

  7. Programmer Buydatti,

don't think it was Kabobfest Hanania was upset about this time. The guys at Ikhras have been following him closely. He even mentioned them on his twitter page a couple of times. They have been relentless in following everything he says and disecting it in a response almost immediately. Here is the last response from them to his latest article. http://ikhras.com/2010/08/ray-hanania-plays-the-s…

    • Thanks for the note Mahmoud. I'm aware of Ikhras' criticisms. I follow their blog quite regularly. I think he was referring to both KABOBfest and Ikhras. He recently threatened members of KABOBfest with a frivolous law suit for criticizing his writings. Plus, on his pathetic attempt at a blog (KABOBfestCharred), he recently noted his disdain for both our sites.

  8. Qasim,

Love the Hanania coverage. Keep it up. I know for a fact he is fuming about you guys. I sent him an email and he responded with profanity and attacked my mother.
