You're using spell checker!!

On another note - I'm sure you know more about Islam than I do, so I'll take your word on the history of modest clothing within the Muslim community. My overall feelings about the issue, however, remain unchanged. My earlier point - which I horribly explained in my last post - is this:

If people perceive sexual temptation to be a problem, and therefore want to avoid it all together - then the solution they should be focusing on and implementing is respect among the sexes, not extreme modesty in clothing. All that does is put a mask on a "problem" that never really went away...

You're right - this may have nothing to do with Islam, and more to do with the culture existing prior to it and lasting till now. Obviously, it's not just a Muslim thing - as Arab Christians and Jews are also made to dress conservatively. But regardless, it's still an issue that needs to be addressed.

I will admit, however, that this is a problem I've noticed more within the culture of Gulf States than the Levant (sham).

The hijab does have its perks though... kinda like a big ol' sexy christmas present if you ask me!Nadeemhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07586409685336709883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6358737.post-54570535530368575602007-02-13T12:02:00.001-08:002007-02-13T12:02:00.001-08:002007-02-13T12:02:00.001-08:00burka burka, mohhamed jihadburka burka, mohhamed jihadAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6358737.post-56358479009298220372007-02-13T12:02:00.000-08:002007-02-13T12:02:00.000-08:002007-02-13T12:02:00.000-08:00Funny you should ask, I had recently experimented ...Funny you should ask, I had recently experimented with all the options of men's underwear, and will gladly help. KABOBfans must keep an eye for the forthcoming post.

As for your other point, before Islam, slavery was prevalent in the Arabian Peninsula, including sexual slavery. Female slaves wore very eroticized clothing that revealed a fair amount of their bodies, they also learned to sing and dance, almost like modern day pole and lap dancing, and were regarded as sexual objects. On the other hand, wives and daughters of slave masters wore very modest clothing, often luxurious, but modest in the sense they were not reveling of their bodies.

The teachings if Islam are merely a continuation of then-existing cultural norms. So whether they are divine or not, they are not original. In fact, the only drastic changes Islam brought to that community on an individual levels are ending slavery, gradually, and banning alcohol, also very gradually. Other changes were more in community structure and social dealings.Fayyadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00868866776001791979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6358737.post-90498430873598172462007-02-13T11:11:00.001-08:002007-02-13T11:11:00.001-08:002007-02-13T11:11:00.001-08:00But wait, isn't the Burkini a tad bit tight to be ...But wait, isn't the Burkini a tad bit tight to be worn by Muslim girls with strict fathers?

Again, I'm no fan of this covering-up thing. And no, it's not becauase I'm a horny man. I actually find medium-level modesty a lot sexier than the K street hooker look.

Honestly, I think we need to re-examine the roots of this whole hijab thing. Maybe it's because I don't believe that God wrote the Quran (or any other "holy" book for that matter)... but I think the hijab had to come about as a result of overly perverted guys staring at each other's wives, daughters, sisters, etc... and it just found its way into religion as a means of streamlining the argument for its necessity.

Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass - whatever. Ladies can where whatever they want - regardless of how I think it makes them look.

On another note - Fayyad I'm currently in the midst of a dilema. I'm feeling the urge to switch over from boxer-briefs to old fashioned boxers. Any chance you might post about that? I could really use your wonderful fashion sense on this one...Nadeemhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07586409685336709883noreply@blogger.com
