Voices from Gaza

You may remember my colleague in Gaza, Abdelrahman, whom I mentioned in one of my posts during the war on Gaza. Immediately after the war, Aljazeera International asked him and others about their experiences during the war and their message to the new US president. Abderrahman Shaath, Gaza City, credit administrator The worst thing about [...]

Between the Bombings: Al-Jazeera’s Uncut Gaza Footage

Al-Jazeera has set up an online Creative Commons Repository for raw footage from Gaza that is free to use for non-commercial activities. This is a terrific a public service. It features unedited footage from Gaza, featuring scenes of life between the spectacular scenes of bombing and fighting, from the ground. I recommend the sickos who [...]

Feeling Sick from a U.S. Media Diet?

Received this from a friend: I just came across this software LiveStation (www.livestation.com) that allows you to watch Al Jazeera English along with a number of other foreign media outlets on your computer. I have found it extremely nice to have an alternative to US media right now and I thought other KABOBfest readers might [...]

Best Media Coverage of Israeli Invasion in Gaza

Watch Al-Jazeera English online now. If you watch any of the American news networks, you are not getting coverage from Gaza. Ben Wedeman of CNN is reporting from Jerusalem, for instance. And the networks are running canned footage from the same source.

Al-Jazeera Twitter Page: Quick, Short and Unspun News

I find Al-Jazeera’s Gaza Twitter page to be a very useful resource for keep abreast of news not framed by Israeli PR spinsters and American dumbassedness. Its brevity means it is usefully devoid of the “he said she said” style of reporting, the American media’s deformed version of investigative journalism. Although Twitter posts are inherently [...]

Closure.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFNoHNXzD8] The slow strangulation of people does not end with the recent loosening of the borders. 42 trucks were let in, and then the border was again closed. This suffering is ongoing. A few months ago we were writing about the generators in Gaza hospitals running out of electricity, and now again. It will be [...]

Afghanistan

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LOO93e7I9g] Obama has said that he will close Guantanamo, withdraw from Iraq, and step up Afghanistan. It is anyone’s guess what increased military involvement in Afghanistan will mean for the country and its people.

If you’re frightened by this video, please stand up.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRqcfqiXCX0] Al-Jazeera allows some of the GOP voting base a voice in this news piece at a Palin rally in eastern Ohio. Perhaps this is ironic, seeing that the sentiments voiced here are rarely seen on the media we project to ourselves, at least so directly. BlackAmericaWeb had this to say about the logic of [...]

Meanwhile, Aljazeera Faces Inquisitions In Morocco

While Al-Jazeera English fights for its right to remain on Vermont as Will and Hanaan highlight, and fend off spear attacks by neocons and zionuts, it fights another battle to protect its rights and staff in Morocco. The trial of Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Morocco, on charges of conspiracy and spreading false information, has [...]

The Trial of Al Jazeera

To follow-up on Will’s earlier post, here’s a closer look at the debate over Al Jazeera English in Burlington, Vermont. Despite its reputation for open-mindedness, there are more than a few idiots in Burlington, with the Israel Center of Vermont and the Defenders Council of Vermont leading the way: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=012YuXq3vYE]
