The Blazing Arab Summer of Entertainment

It seems that nothing can stop Arabic entertainers from making new material in the hopes of generating revenue and profits.

Is Qaddafi going for a Tony Montana-like ending?

Fadi Elsalameen Makes Cameo in Transformers 3

In an unexpected twist to the third installment of the popular Transformers series, Palestinian socialite Fadi Elsalameen will make a cameo appearance.

Meet Yasmin, the Arab Box Office Darling

The formula for a movie where a female actress takes the leading role should be like the one Yasmin Abd El Aziz used. She is cute and guys like that so they will love to see her movies. She is childish and funny so you know gets lover to see her. She is wonderful in physical comedies, the one thing that makes a movie fun for the entire family is the clean physical comedy.

Seven Americans the World Hates

As an international student in America, I have heard countless accounts about American tourists and travelers. Although I have been living in America for a long time now, I have made a number of observations about American tourists in America and around the world as I travel. There are more than seven Americans the world [...]

Weinstein to Distribute ‘Miral’ – Why?

Yesterday, the Weinstein Co. announced a distribution deal over “Miral,” Julian Schnabel’s film about the founding of a Palestinian orphanage in 1948 and the evolution of a young Palestinian woman at the dawn of the first intifada. Rula Jebreal adapted the screenplay from her own novel.

The film’s story revolves around a real-life orphanage established in Jerusalem by Palestinian woman Hind Husseini (Hiam Abbass) following the 1948 creation of Israel. Miral (Pinto) is sent to the orphanage in 1978, and later teaches at a refugee camp where she falls for an activist (named Programmer Buydatti).

Aron Kader Brings Out His Inner Pacifist

Aron Kader, the Arab American Stand up comic is has a new YouTube video. “The Pacifist” runs as a fake movie preview about John whose entire world about to go South. This video puts Aron’s acting skills to a test as for the first time, we see Aron in an acting role, most of us are used to seeing him do stand up comedy. I liked the made-up reviews and I enjoyed the accents and the gangster on the phone. “The Pacifist” is an attempt to introduce Aron Kader to a wider audience, beyond the Arab-Americans and Mormons, both are fans of his jokes. This video leaves me looking forward to Aron’s next video.

Guest Post: The Hurt Locker’s (Mis)use of Sacred Muslim Symbols

After watching Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker I felt it was necessary to write about what I found to be a careless use of sacred sound design. The Hurt Locker is an Oscar nominated film about a US army bomb disposal unit in Baghdad during the early stages of the US occupation of Iraq in 2004. The film contains various intense scenes encountering IEDs, car bombs, and explosive vests disarmed by the film’s protagonist, a young die hard bomb expert Sergeant First Class William James.

Turning 30 is Like Running Against the Clock

It must have been a coincidence.  I happened to come across a television show, a movie and a conversation with a friend all having to do with being female, being thirtyish and having something missing or looking for something in life.  It was like God was trying to tell me something. A couple of weeks [...]
