Father: I also do not like Mooselims because they can’t be patriotic Americans.
Son: That is odd! My Muslim classmate, Chafique, told the class that his oldest brother had served in the US army and that his father is a retired US veteran.
Every Ramadan, an Arab star will make a music album for religious reasons. Pop stars have been releasing singles with religious themes and prayers every Ramadan, so it’s not that a new phenomena. Go back to the fifties, sixties, seventies and so on, you will find almost all Arab singers have at least a song with a religious theme. Truth to be told Sami Yousef (perhaps the first Muslim pop star) made those all hot again and many Arab stars got back into releasing religion inspired music. Very few of those singers has met much success in this style. In the past though releasing such an album means you are about to leave the music scene, but this is not the case here.
The organizers have alerted its members to bring Bibles, dogs, flags, and female singers during Muslim Friday prayer. They argue Islam is not a religion, Muslims cannot be loyal American citizens, as they hate and kill dogs and do not allow women to sing. These people are either ignorant or just notorious liars. Here’s why:
The assertion “the Quran preaches violence against non-Muslims” seems to have become unquestionable in American society and media. When some pundits try to defend Islam in response to that accusation, they contend that: “all religions have violent language” and begin quoting verses from the Old Testament, like the ones in Samuel 15:3 in which God [...]
When I wrote the piece “13 Arab Guys Not to Date,” I followed it by “13 Arab Girls Not to Date,” this in turn had many readers asking, “So who are we supposed to date?” While we will leave paid dating sites to answer that question for you, we will gladly tell you which Arab guy you will most likely marry. Let’s meet your potential future husbands and get to know them a bit better.
Ever since Hamas won the 2006 election, the Palestinians have witnessed one of the greatest political divisions in their modern history. Upon my visit to Gaza a year ago, I have heard of many stories and countless accounts of divisions among Palestinians. While most of these divisions and political differences enrich the debate in the Palestinian society, those divisions can also undermine the cause. Throughout the conflict many Palestinian homes had siblings who supported different political factions without breaking up the family. But now things look different. Two recent events raise alarm;
A 62 foot tall statue of Jesus was struck by lightning this week and burned to the ground. The “King of Kings” statue, better known as Touchdown Jesus because of the way its armed were raised as if to signal a touchdown has been scored, has been one of southwest Ohio’s most familiar landmarks. The statue was made of plastic foam and fiberglass over a steel frame, which is all that remained following the fire.
By now, everyone’s heard that Rima Fakih, a Muslim Lebanese-American girl, has won the prestigious title of Miss USA. While the victory has put conservative pundits’ panties in a twist, Arab- and Muslim-Americans are rejoicing.
I always imagined my own version of the book called “100 Places You Must Visit Before You Die,” where the “100 Places” would be replaced by just one place that I had already chosen. In terms of geographic proximity, that place required no oversea, transatlantic flights. It required no light backpacks and comfortable tennis shoes. Nor did it require a camera with lots of memory space, because I was not going to “visit”
So, I thought about a list of things that you should not discuss with an Arab person. I present 15 subjects you are not advised to discuss without serious drama or incident. Let’s keep this post more civil than the last list. Those on the list are either subjects that are too complicated to have [...]
