The YoungCon’s Hip Hop Guide to Muslims

A bout of absolutely pure brilliance. [tarboush tip: the atlantic]

Finally, a Sleeper Cell Comedy

The Four Lions is a black comedy about five fumbling British jihadists with big ambitions but zero potential.

Should the NRA Condemn Loughner? The Terrorism of Gun Violence in the United States

Why hasn’t the NRA condemned and apologized for the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the dozens of people who were there to see her?

When a Muslim commits an act of terrorism, every Muslim and Muslim group is badgered either for not condemning the crime in strong enough terms or for failing to apologize on behalf of the faith.

Shouldn’t the NRA both condemn and apologize for the actions of Jared Lee Loughner, their fellow legal firearm owner’s crimes? Sure most firearm owners would never think of shooting anyone without cause, let alone assassinating a public figure, and most are fine, upstanding citizens. However, owning a gun equips one to cause significant death and destruction if one wants. I think the rest of the country would feel more at ease knowing that their national organization opposes in no uncertain terms such use of guns.

This is How Arabs Confront Evil

In the aftermath of the tragic bombing in the Alexandria church in Egypt, scores of Arab artists started working on songs about the bombing, within 12 hours the first song surfaced and every day since the day of the tragic Church bombing there has been a new song calling for calm and unity and how the Christians and Muslims are BFFs.

Santa and Bin Ladin — Lots in Common

I never thought about Santa Claus having so much in common with the world’s number one terrorist. After all, there was news of some wannabe terrorist wanting to blow up a Christmas tree.

How to Write about Arabia

Always use the word ‘Sand’ or ‘Darkness’ or ‘Whispers’ in your title. Subtitles may include the words ‘Islam’, ‘Jihad’, ‘Desert’, ‘Dawn’, ‘Struggle’, ‘Oil’, ‘Orient’, ‘Arabia’, ‘Calling’, ‘Veil’, ‘Allah’ or ‘Anger’. Also useful are words such as ‘Terrorists’, ‘Timeless’, ‘Fundamentalism’ and ‘Tribal’. Note that you must always refer to Arab people as the “Arab Street”.

Eid Mubarak and Hajj Mabruk!

*
The Boston Globe is at it again with their pictorial coverage of Islam’s most celebrated rituals! The traditional prerequisite shots of pilgrims circling the Kaaba creating a blurred photo-effect are augmented with plentiful photos of Muslims climbing to and praying at Mount Arafat, Noor Mountain Zamzam water collection systems, modernized campsite accommodations, Saudi military parade stills, and an inside view into a new light-rail metro line.

Where is Pakistan’s Halo, Beyonce?

When an earthquake measuring the magnitude of 7.0 struck the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, Haiti, on January 12th 2010, the world immediately froze and mobilized. Hearts leaped out from their otherwise sleeping chambers, as nations and citizens ran to donate – either by texting their donations, set up by several mobile phone providers, or by holding small or big fundraising efforts.

Palestine From Different Eyes

Therefore, it is only logical to claim that if an Israeli is guilty of mass murder, then so is a Palestinian, and the variation between the damage inflicted is related to the variation in armament.

I.e. were the Palestinians to have an army like Israel, the Palestinians would have killed just as many Israelis!

The Sufi and the Jihadi: The Dangerous Good Muslim/Bad Muslim Trope

In a recent op-ed from New York Times (“Muslims in the Middle,”August 16th) contributor William Dalrymple writes that “many of our leaders have a tendency to see the Islamic world as a single, terrifying monolith,” unable to discern between the varying “complexities and nuances” rampant within a community of faith that envelops..
