‘Good’ Versus ‘Bad’ Immigration in the UK

Two weeks ago, David Cameron encouraged the British public to report suspected illegal immigrants and “reclaim our borders”, in an attempt to lower levels of immigration to “where they were in the 1980s and 90s”. Acknowledging that the debate “often swings between extremes”, he cast his own stance as one of moderation, “between those who attack caution about immigration as racist…and those who plead that our communities just can’t cope”.

Why is the name “Mohammad” declining in the US, but not the UK?

I was curious about the ranking of the name “Mohammad” and two variant spellings among newborns in the United States. A baby name website provides graphs of name rankings based on US Census data — not that I’m having a baby anytime soon. It also shows rates in other countries, mostly in parts of Great [...]

Western Hypocrisy Shines at the Racism Conference

Sorry, we’re at the wrong conference…thought it was a pro-racism event. Following on Kalash’s post… The orgasmic outrage against Ahmedinejad’s speech is a farce. The diplomats who walked out and boycotted the conference are the same who propagated lies and based invasions on them. Even worse, they come from countries enriched by and built on [...]

Galloway Lands in Gaza

To follow-up on Kalash’s post, British MP George Galloway arrived successfully to Gaza with an aid caravan, “Viva Palestina” that drove all the way from London. The British politician known for his political radicalism and oratorical prowess as a “hero.” He was booted from the Labour party for his opposition to the 2003 invasion of [...]

Is the Custard-Bomber Arab?

Question for all the culture experts in the media: is throwing custard at someone a sign of disrespect in British culture? CNN reported that a protester opposed to the expansion of Heathrow Airport threw green custard in the face of British Business Secretary Peter Mandelson today. Mandelson had just stepped out of his car for [...]

From London to Gaza

A large aid-caravan has entered Egypt on its way to Gaza. Viva Palestina is organizing the convoy that left London on Valentine’s Day and has since swollen in size to include  fire engines, ambulances and a boat, as well as dozens of other vehicles loaded with food, medicine, clothing and toys. Leading the charge is none [...]

BBC: “Just trying to stay neutral”

“The hottest places in Hell are reserved for thosewho in time of great moral crises maintain their neutrality.” – Dante Last week, the BBC made the decision not to air an appeal on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee for Gaza on the basis that “the BBC’s impartiality was in danger of being damaged.” The [...]

Gordon Brown: Israel killed “too many” civilians

How many too many, Brownie? Twenty? Twenty-two? Just so Israel knows, you know, for next time. [Bloomberg]
