‘Good’ Versus ‘Bad’ Immigration in the UK
Two weeks ago, David Cameron encouraged the British public to report suspected illegal immigrants and “reclaim our borders”, in an attempt to lower levels of immigration to “where they were in the 1980s and 90s”. Acknowledging that the debate “often swings between extremes”, he cast his own stance as one of moderation, “between those who attack caution about immigration as racist…and those who plead that our communities just can’t cope”.
